GM’s cross-town rival, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, fields three offerings in this segment – the Jeep Compass, Jeep Renegade and Fiat 500X. The trio accounted for an impressive 53,320 deliveries during the quarter. Meanwhile, the two GM offerings – the Buick Encore and Chevy Trax – accounted for a cumulative 61,536 deliveries. As such, GM outsold FCA by 8,216 units during the three-month-long period. GM held a 28 percent segment share while FCA held 24 percent. Individually, the Encore and Trax each commanded 13 and 15 percent segment share, respectively.
The subcompact mainstream crossover segment expanded 9.4 percent to 214,980 units during Q4 2019. As such, the Encore’s 22 percent increase in sales volume outpaced the segment average.
The GM Authority Take
The Encore is one of the few GM models that wasn’t negatively impacted by the 40 day-long UAW strike during Q4 2019. That circumstance is due to the fact that the Encore is produced in Korea with a relatively contained supply chain, thereby being shielded from disruptions in manufacturing and logistics operations caused by the UAW.
Going forward, it will be interesting to see whether Buick Encore sales volume maintains the upward trajectory experienced during the fourth quarter, particularly with the arrival of the all-new Buick Encore GX.

The 2020 Buick Encore GX is larger than the “regular” Encore and will be positioned as a subcompact-plus CUV, fitting between the subcompact Encore and compact Envision in the Buick lineup
The current Buick Encore is being threatened by newer segment rivals such as the Nissan Kicks, Jeep Compass, Honda HR-V, Toyota CH-R, Hyundai Kona and Venue on the one hand, and on the other hand by other Buick products such as the upcoming Buick Encore GX, which will be sold in the United States alongside the first-gen Encore. The Encore is one of the oldest vehicles in the segment, having received a facelift in 2017. As such, it’s entirely possible that the all-new Encore GX may cannibalize sales of the outgoing Encore, despite being slightly larger and having a slightly higher price point.

Comments
thank you for not comparing buick sales to premium brands.
I think you meant luxury brand?
Go Encore Go ! Nice sized SUV that has very good reviews. I am glad that GM is still going to sell it along side the Encore GX.
I do think that it will cannibalize sales from the smaller Encore. I suspect that GM will start to offer discounts to move the
smaller Encores if that starts to happen. In a few more years I will start looking to replace my Saturn and an off lease Encore will be one of the vehicles I will look into. BTW I do not like that certain configurations of the Encore GX will have a CVT transmission.
Live to dream.. Buick offering the Cadillac 2.0L four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine that is good for 170 horsepower and a healthy 280 pound-feet of torque for the Encore as this engine will quickly change the personality of the Encore as something more fun especially with 280 lb-ft of torque.
build it in AMERICA
Hopefully they bought the extended warranty for the 1.4L. They are gonna need it
Not according to recent dependability studies released. If you look at current and past reported Encore reliability statistics they have been best in class. There has been some 1.4L problems with the turbo charger or related, but it has been few and far in between. If you go to an internet forum as with any manufacture including Honda, that is where people post their problems. They are looking for an answer or to vent frustrations. Not too many people go on a forum blog and start a post saying how great their vehicle has been!
Buick, a premium brand, is tied with mainstream Honda.
Buick, a half dead damaged brand is pulling great numbers that will only improve with GX entering the market.
It’s a pity Buick isnt selling China Enclave in place of Envision. It would be a temptation for Encore buyers looking to move up.
