1961 Chevrolet Impala 4×4 May Be The World’s Oddest Off-Roader

With the global coronavirus pandemic ongoing, some folks may be wondering what the ideal car would be for a post-apocalyptic world. If we had to choose a car to carry us through a global crisis, we’d pick something that is tough, reliable and easy to repair and find parts for, and this custom-built 1961 Chevrolet Impala 4×4 currently for sale on eBay fits the bill perfectly.

As strange as this custom 4×4 is, it actually appears to be very sound. According to the listing, it was built all the way back in 1996 and was briefly a show car, but has been used as a daily driver in recent years. It rides on a 1977 Chevrolet C/K half-ton pickup truck chassis and features front disc brakes, a Posi-Traction rear end and a modern-day Pioneer stereo with a subwoofer. The interior is also in very good shape – somewhat surprising for a car that looks like it just rolled off the set of Mad Max.

Sitting under the hood of this high-riding Chevy Impala is a 400 cubic-inch V8, which was one of the bigger V8s offered in the C/K for 1977, as opposed to the smaller 307 and 350 V8s. It looks like the transfer case for the truck’s four-wheel-drive system has been nicely integrated into the floor of the vehicle, too.

If you don’t think you’ll need this lifted Impala to help you weather a coming apocalypse, it would also be a great car to take out to classic car shows and car meets. The seller says it always turns heads at the shows they’ve taken it to and that kids also respond well to it.
