A recent study conducted by market research firm Piplsay indicates millennials are more excited about the upcoming GMC Hummer EV pickup truck than baby boomers
Piplsay surveyed 20,264 Americans 18 years old and older on the recent GMC Hummer EV Superbowl advertisements, asking them if they saw the TV spots, what they thought of them and to give their opinion the new electric pickup truck. Only 51 percent of those surveyed said they saw the ad, which featured NBA star Lebron James. Of those, 49 percent said that they were “excited” about the GMC Hummer EV, while 15 percent said that they weren’t looking forward to the vehicle. Another 36 percent said they “don’t care” about it.

Still from the GMC Hummer EV Superbowl ad campaign
Interestingly, though, Piplsay’s survey indicated that excitement for the GMC Hummer EV is higher among millennials than among baby boomers. A significant 62 percent of millennials that said they saw the ad stated they were excited about the new electric truck, while just 54 percent of baby boomers said they were. This is interesting, as we often hear millennials are not interested in driving as older generations due to the emergence of ride-sharing apps like Uber and Lyft.
The survey also asked participants if they think the GMC Hummer EV will be a true threat to the Tesla Cybertruck. About 40 percent said they weren’t sure, while 35 percent said “yes” and 25 percent said “no. The Cybertruck is probably the most well-known and widely publicized of the upcoming electric pickup trucks, but it won’t be the only direct rival to the GMC Hummer EV. Ford and promising Michigan-based start-up Rivian are both working on their own battery-powered pickups, while the newly established Lordstown Motor Company is hoping to cover off the fleet market with its electric Endurance truck.
As for the GMC Hummer EV ad campaign itself, only 17 percent of those surveyed said it was “good” or “awesome” while fourteen percent thought it was “okay” and three percent said it was “not great.” The ads did not show much of the electric truck itself and mainly focused on Lebron James’ cameo appearance. The ads also promoted the vehicle’s high torque figure and overall performance.
The GMC Hummer EV will make its debut on May 20th, 2020. We’ll have all the details as soon as they become available, but for now, be sure to subscribe to GM Authority for more Hummer news, GMC news, and around-the-clock GM news coverage.

You really need to look at the market right now and Trucks and Jeeps are the one segment that is stable with all age groups.
While the Coupes and performance cars are seeing older owners and declining sales Jeep Wranglers and most trucks are seeing no drop off.
The aftermarket is responding with a greater increase in parts for these vehicles vs the car segment anymore.
The H3 is still very popular with the high school kids in the fly over states.
This last summer I was shocked to see many of the younger women that used to be in Mustang Convertibles driving Jeep Wranglers with the top off [the Jeep] and the doors removed.
I really feel there is a real segment for the activity vehicles that can be opened up. Imagine if GM has an affordable vehicle that could be opened up and driven year round. Ford has the Bronco coming but I need to see the price first.
GMC needs an affordable HX4 model with a Turbo 4 that can be had for $24K-39K. Make it Wrangler size.
Young people are excited until they find out what the price is
Ok Boomer
To be honest as a GM LOYALIST. YES OUR FAMILIES HAVE PURCHASED OVER 50 GM VEHICLES. Myself I’m at 13 and I’m 48 yrs old. What GM doesn’t get is that their biggest market is trucks and SUVs a long time ago, not this adjustment they are making today from cars to truck/SUVs . GM IS LATE TO EVERY PARTY, THEY REFUSE TO LEAD AND BRING OUT THE BEST IN EVERY VEHICLE, IN EVERY CATEGORY like Mary Barra promised when she became leader of GM. These new trucks are a prime example, real shitty interiors, when you look at the competition. It pisses me off because a lot of us guys who need a truck to replace our old ones are pissed, that GM refuses to see the markets for what they are. The Raptor is a prime example, been on the market forever and taking boat loads $$$ to the bank, Raptors everywhere. Where is the offroad Bandit OR Reaper from GM , we are forced as GM LOYALIST to shop everywhere else but GM LOTS. Not everyone wants a blinged out Denali with hideous amounts of chrome everywhere. We want a lifted offroad, tough, aggressive looking truck like what NIKOLA has with their stunning truck. GM needs to hire that designer pronto, his design is stunning, muscular, tough and mean looking, everybody would buy this truck if GM made it.
Like I said before about the Tacoma, young generations want that truck over Canyon/Colorado because the aggressive looks and hood scoop etc. Even my 17yr old daughter wants it. I showed her the new ZR2 redesign coming, nope, TACOMA all the way. The Hummer truck design I hope GM gets right. I’ll be pissed if all they do is tack a Hummer front end on the Chevy 1500 Body, maintain the profile of the Chevy, GM twins and tack a Hummer ass on it too. They have a chance to really make the HUMMER EV stand out. I hope it’s exactly that, a fresh HUMMER design and no exterior body parts shared from other GM products.
I truly will buy this Hummer truck if it’s a completely 100% fresh Hummer only design. So let’s pray GM gets their customers. Give us the tough looking trucks we crave, I’m talking about us guys who fish, hike, atv, ride snowmobiles, go to the lakes. We spend huge bucks on our trucks, all my friends have 4 to 6 inch lifts, 35 to 37 inch tires , aggressive rims, light bars, winches, bull bars etc. We spend over 10 to $20000 on our new trucks to trick em out. Sorry to say but yep we are a huge market GM does not cater too at all. The AT4 is ok but not a Raptor
Well yeah, young kids for the last 10 years or so have been hearing about Tesla since they have been little kids.
The younger Generation is much more open to EV’s and much more excited for them than Boomers.
Ah. Really.
Where does genX figure into this equation? So we can garner what the Grandparents VS. Grandkids opinions are… What about the children of the boomers/parents of the milenials?
I’m right at the tail end of Millennials/beginning of Gen X, and I’ve been stunned by how open people around my age have been to this. And not because our generation is more open to EVs…but because, surprisingly, we actually genuinely like Hummers. I think this is more prominent among gen x then Millennials, but both seem pretty excited for this.
Gen X like Hummer because it reminds them of growing up in the late 90’s/2000’s. It’s like looking back at the Backstreet Boys or flip Blackberries. Plus, while Millennials tend to lean left and are more “environmentally conscious,” Gen Xers leans more to the right, and aren’t offended by Hummer. The prospect of it coming back has a lot of us excited, EV or otherwise.
Not to mention that this’ll be a hot offroader, one of the hottest segments in the industry. Can’t wait.
The new Hummer is a great idea.
I really hope the execution lives up to all the hype.
GM shouldn’t play it safe this time around. It’s gotta be bad ass if they want to win the battle of the EV’s
@Larry
I agree with you 100%
Millennials will have a hard time affording this though. I have cleared all college debt and make decent money, but not enough for a Hummer. I have enough for an AWD EV crossover though. If GM has one coming at around $45K, I’ll buy it. Else I’m going with a Tesla or Ford.
Millennials will be inheriting trillions in the coming years from dying boomers. Many are already planning how they will be spending all that cash…
In order to get excited, the boomers need little blue pills…🤣😂
