General Motors Has Been Named One Of The World’s Most Ethical Companies

General Motors has been included in The Ethisphere Institute’s list of the World’s Most Ethical Companies for 2020.

The Ethisphere Institute says the World’s Most Ethical Companies ranking is “recognized for setting the global standards of business integrity and corporate citizenship.” The annually-published list identifies the most ethical companies based on a number of categories including its culture of ethics, corporate citizenship and responsibility, governance and leadership and reputation. This year’s ranking included a total of 132 companies spanning 21 countries and 51 different industries.

GM was recognized by The Ethisphere Institute for its ‘Vision Zero’ commitment, which set it down the path to help create a world with zero vehicle emissions, zero traffic accident deaths and zero traffic congestion. GM was also applauded for its efforts in switching to renewable energy, which will see it a source 100 percent of its global electricity from renewables by 2040, and its commitment to increasing the percentage of sustainable materials used in its vehicles.

“It’s easier to live your values when things are going well, but it’s more difficult when the going gets tough,” GM CEO Mary Barra said in a statement. “At General Motors, we are determined to lead the automotive industry in creating a world with zero crashes, zero emissions and zero congestion, and to do it with integrity. This recognition as one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies is a testament to the men and women of General Motors who are committed to doing the right thing, even when it’s hard.”

“Congratulations to everyone at General Motors for earning this recognition,” added Ethisphere CEO Timothy Erblich. “This is a moment to acknowledge the leaders working to advance corporate cultures defined by integrity and affirm those companies contributing to broader societal imperatives and the greater good.”

GM was the only OEM automakers included in the World’s Most Ethical Companies ranking for 2020. The only other automotive companies that appeared on the list were all supply companies, those being Aptiv, Cummins and Cooper Standard. GM was also the biggest company by personnel count included on the list, with the automaker employing more than 164,000 people around the globe. Aptiv and Dell were the next biggest companies by employee count, respectively.

      U.S. market share
      Chevy Spark = 0.2%
      Cadillac Escalade = 0.2%
ATP is just as important as marketshare.

      1. ATP is rising which means many folks are not able to afford new vehicles… GM needs to do so much more…

This “award” does nothing for what GM does, make vehicles… YAWN…………..

      2. I disagree Peter. You may gouge the customer for more money, and that may work with die hard loyalists. Unfortunately, other automakers are offering more value and once their behinds are behind the wheel of a competitor versus a GM vehicle, GM may not get those folks back.

  2. Zero is one of those words that is used so loosely. The only things certain in life are birth, death and paying lots of taxes in between. Everything else is here say and chance and saying we are going to have zero crashes is a theoretical impossibility with current technology and any flawed human guidance. I’ll go along with reduced accidents, reduced emissions and reduced traffic congestion but never zero!

    1. Or how about making the goals for GM something the CONSUMER cares about- say Zero defects, Zero disgruntled customers, and Zero lost sales?

  3. Ethical??? Tell that to the workers in Oshawa and all other shuttered plants.

    1. Or the salaried folks who got the “blue bag” treatment.

  4. Unbelievable. Certainly another fake, purchased award.
Ask those out of a job at the closed plants how they feel as we see more products going to Mexico and China.

  5. You disgust me. It’s ethical to tear families apart for the sake of padding your own pockets? How much did you donate to  The Ethisphere Institute for this?

P.S. I’ll see my husband again in 2 more months when he can come home again for a visit. Thanks.
