Universal Pictures has released an extended-length trailer for the next installment in the long-running and extremely popular Fast and Curious franchise, Fast and Furious 9.
The new trailer provides a brief backstory for the film and also gives us an idea of what to expect from its automotive roster. General Motors products in the trailer include a Pontiac Fiero, which has been converted into some kind of rocket car, along with a Chevrolet Nova SS and a couple of Chevrolet Silverado pickups. Other cars that appear in the trailer include a 1968 Dodge Charger and a 2020 Dodge Charger Hellcat Widebody. An orange 2020 Toyota Supra has also been spied on set – a potential nod to the orange 1994 Supra that starred in the first Fast and Furious film.
Fast and Furious 9 will star Vin Diesel, who once again reprises his role as Dom Toretto, along with Michelle Rodriguez as Letty Ortiz. Other recognizable names from the franchise will also return, including 2 Fast 2 Furious star Tyrese Gibson, who will play his Roman Pierce role once again, and fellow 2 Fast 2 Furious alumnus Ludacris, who returns as Tej Parker.
In addition, Charlize Theron and Helen Mirren will be reprising their Fate of the Furious roles for Fast 9, with Theron playing cyberterrorist Cipher and Mirren playing Magdeline Shaw. Tokyo Drift stars Lucas Black (Shawn) and Sung Kang (Han) will make brief appearances in the film, as well. There will also be an all-new addition to the cast for Fast and Furious 9, with John Cena playing Dom Toretto’s brother. It’s not clear what Cena’s character’s name is, though it is known that he is the estranged brother of Diesel’s character.
