The GM Authority Take
For the third consecutive month, Cadillac Mexico sales decreased substantially in January. In fact, last month’s 31 percent decline even exceeded the 30 percent decrease that the luxury brand saw in December – the worst result that Cadillac recorded throughout 2019. This particularly negative performance was promoted by a significant contraction of the Cadillac Escalade (down 67 percent) and the XT5 (down 55 percent).
Meanwhile, the Cadillac XT4 was the only Cadillac model that saw positive sales in January. The compact crossover improved its performance by 68 percent when compared to January 2019, becoming the brand’s best-selling vehicle in the Mexican market. As we posited previously, the XT4 will likely continue becoming Caddy’s best-selling model in other markets around the world thanks to its presence in a rapidly-growing segment while also being a highly-attractive attractive and competitive product offering.
It’s also worth noting that the entire Mexican automobile market is in a slump thanks to macroeconomic issues. In fact, January 2020 represents the 34th consecutive month that auto sales declined in Mexico.
