About Cadillac CT5
The CT5 is a new luxury sedan from GM's Cadillac brand. The model will replace both the ATS and CTS Sedans in the future Cadillac product portfolio. The vehicle will be larger than the ATS yet slightly smaller than the CTS, and positioned as a D-segment offering that's slightly larger than the BMW 3/4 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class segment stalwarts.
The traditional four-door sedan body styles for the CT5 is a shoe-in. A two-door coupe is possible. A convertible is less of a possibility, and a wagon is out of the question thanks to consumers' ongoing love affair with crossovers.
The CT5 rides on an updated version of the GM Alpha platform dubbed internally as Alpha 2. It will be powered by the following engines:
- New turbo-charged 2.0L LSY I-4 TriPower as the base engine making around 250 horsepower
- Twin-turbocharged 3.0L LGW V-6 making over 400 horsepower
An ultra-high-performance CT5-V model is expected, but it's currently unknown which engine it will use. Two possibilities include the twin-turbo 4.2L LTA V8 or the supercharged 6.2L LT4 V8.
All engines will be mated to the new GM 10-speed automatic transmission.
The Cadillac CT5 will launch in North America in the third or fourth quarter of the 2019 calendar year as a 2020 model year. A China launch is expected to take place in the second or third quarter of 2019.
The CT5 will be built at the following plants:
- GM Lansing Grand River plant in Michigan to supply America, Korea, Europe and the Middle East
- Jinqiao Cadillac plant in China to supply China and Russia

Dumb comment but, discounts already ?
Assuming they’re going to never promote or market this vehicle, then when no one knows what it is, and it doesn’t sell, they’ll kill it and say no one wants sedans. No, people want sedans that they want, not necessarily the ones you’re making… GM is lost…
the writing was on the wall with the end of the ct6. the ct4/5 are already dead. the only glimmer of hope is china i guess.
I have seen commercials for the CT5 on regular TV at least three times.
Is anyone really shocked that the Tweener CT5 has a rebate already?
I’m going to my local car show this friday and I will see how it looks in person and see how many people are looking at it. To me the sport trim looks very sharp.
Finally got around to invading my local dealer to see what these things actually looked like, and was very disappointed. It’s not really a bad looking car as such, but except for the front clip, it just doesn’t look anything like a real Cadillac. Maybe an Accord, or some kind of Nissan, but not a Cadillac. It’s generic in the extreme.
Other than the front or rear styling, what distinguishes one sedan from another? What styling element were you expecting to be present in a Cadillac that was skipped?
Now, please point out what distinguishes a VW sedan from an Audi from a BMW from an Accord or Camry?
Let’s be realistic, from the front and back of the car, there is nothing remotely close on the market that looks comparable to a Cadillac. The DRLs are so unique to Cadillac that I can tell them from a long distance.
If the “DRLs are so unique to Cadillac that I can tell them from a long distance” are what make this car a Cadillac, then it’s even worse off than I thought. Let’s just agree to disagree on this thing.
Flamethrower, let’s all just agree that you’re a troll with no logical explanation for your assessment here. You also never answered the question which is telling. You guys are quick to hop on the bandwagon of trolling & trashing literally everything this company puts out claiming “…it looks like a [insert Year, Make, Model] smh” but when asked you all fail to explain outside of the headlight and taillight modules what differentiates a Mercedes-Benz C-Class from a Audi A4, Genesis G70, Lexus IS, or BMW 3-series. You couldn’t answer the question.
Vehicles like the Honda Accord, KIA Optima, Nissan Maxima, VW Passat, etc. are going to look more and more like they belong in this segment because that’s what their designers are gunning for. An expensive, sporty, and luxurious look. Truth is a lot of you are just trolls who don’t even believe this vehicle looks like a Nissan but you’re going to hop on the bandwagon and repeat what you’ve seen some other troll post anyway. I’ve even read it looks like a Malibu and a Versa. Lol. That’s so untrue and honestly ridiculous.
The Cadillac CT5 looks like nothing else on the road today. Same goes for the XT6, CT6, XT5, CT4, XT4, and the new Escalade. Anyone that says otherwise is simply a troll unless they can logically explain their reasoning behind their comparison and point out all of the alleged shocking similarities. That’s just how I feel. The “art & science” era was very unique already, but the Escala design language is even more distinctive and unique. The signature vertical Cadillac lighting and the way the company executes the details of their exterior LEDs even further differentiates these products from everyone else. Again, I feel we can all agree that it’s ok to have an opinion but there’s a lot of troll activity going on here too.
I’ve seen the CT5, sat in one and seen it on local streets here, you won’t be disappointed.
Many here simply have no clue how Sales work. None.. Before coming to comments.. I braced myself for someone saying ..”Not Good.. rebates already..” and sure enough with less than 5 comments before mine.. I was not disappointed. Almost every vehicle I can think of in the luxury segment is offering $1000 off in rebates. Heck I can get $1500 on the supposedly hot Lincoln Aviator.. $1000 off the 5, 7 and 3 series.. $2000 off the X7 to name a few
MiatsoCI…..You are correct, i dont know much about car sales, thats why it was a “dumb comment”. The CT5 has not even arrived at my local GM dealer, thats why im surprised at a discount on a car that hasnt even hit the lot yet.
Matt.. I didn’t call it dumb.. but I will say that it is uniformed. Rebates are moving agents. They push people into the dealerships. 10x outta 10 they are built into the pricing from git. I will also say that they only time U get no rebates is when the car is seriously “special.” The C8 for instance will have no rebates for about 6 months.. then voila. The Escalade might have rebates out the gate. Its special.. but its a mover. And while U have some who will use their C8 as a daily.. I’m betting that number is going to be like 5%, probably less. The Escalade will most likely be a buyer’s daily. The CT5.. definitely a daily no different than a 3Series or Eclass. They simply are not “Special.” The CT5-Blackwing will be though
MiatsoCI………Your right, you didnt call it dumb, I did !! You might want to read my first comment again before you type “Matt..i didn’t call it dumb”
And remember to “brace yourself”
LOL.. My bad Bro. I apologize
You can keep fooling yourself about how pitiful this CT5 really is…..
I saw one in a parking lot and stopped and looked at it. It looked very good inside and out. I give Cadillac credit for what they did with the car considering what had to be massive limitations forced on them by the GM cost cutters…..
The car is gorgeous. I’ve seen two on the road in the last week.. I posted a pic of one on GMI. I think the styling is about 90% Escala Concept.. sans the length and a few other things.. they nailed it. And truth be told when I was at the dealership picking up my CT6-V I had an opportunity to drive a 350T.. I don’t think GM chintzed on the interior or exterior.. I think in order to drop the price what they did was remove standard components that came in the $10K more CTS.. such as MRC and Brembos.. for example. U can still get these amenities tho.. except now U will pay for them in the Sport and onward to the CT5-V and certainly the Blackwing
Bean counters do not make exciting cars….
Corvette/Z06/ZR1.. Camaro/SS/ZL1.. CTS(CT5)-VSport/V.. ATS(CT4)-V.. CT6 3.0LTT/4.2LTTV, Denali, Escalade, Z71, AT4s.. I beg to differ
Bean counters do not make exciting cars….
When your done with your CT6V call me……
There will be more discounts to come on the CT5–many more.
In 2008 when I bought my CTS there were two engines offered–both V-6 engines–one had 263 HP and the other 304 HP–don’t want a 237 HP four banger in a mid-size luxury car as the base engine.
“don’t want a 237 HP four banger in a mid-size luxury car as the base engine.”
U mean like the 5Series (248HP, weighing 200lbs more), E-Class (255hp, weighing 200lbs more) and A6 (248hp, and weighs 500lbs more).. all about $15K more for God knows why?
I think you will find 0 to 60 elapsed times for the German luxury car with 4 cylinder engines much quicker then the Cadillac 237 HP engine—-I rented a Mercedes Benz C-Class sedan a few years ago with a four cylinder engine that I believe was rated either at 201 or 2008 HP—couldn’t believe how quick it felt in the open roads of central Massachusetts–felt better then the ATS loaner car I received with the 272 HP four two years ago. Hey—I want Cadillac to do well—bought new 2004 CTS and then a new 2008 CTS with the 304 HP V-6–loved both of them–still have the 2008 CTS in Hot Lava–great car.
Slightly quicker some of them.. but that is gearing for fuel economy. A quick TCM tune will remedy that if its a necessity. Personally I would never buy the 2.0LT in a car outside of the compacts or mid-size while the 3.0LTT or higher is available. I’m a firm believer that if power is really what U want.. why start at the bottom and then complain that its lackluster. Cadillac putting out the 2.0L at that rating may have been brilliant tho.. It will most likely.. if sales and marketing does its job.. push people into a 3.0LTT or HI-PO 3.0LTT V
The biggest issue of Cadillac’s CT5 is that it doesn’t offer much that couldn’t be found in other GM vehicles and if you closed your eyes, the CT5 performs very similarly to other GM vehicles including some CUVs as there is nothing about Cadillac’s CT5 that you can point to as a reason for wanting to buy.
Bingo. With the price reduction, the base to mid-range CT5 could easily be a Buick…except that a Buick at those price points would have a stronger powertrain…lol.
s/ Good thing that the Regal and Lacrosse won’t be in the showroom much longer to cannibalize sales from the new Cadillac sedans! /s
What other GM sedan is available as a rear wheel drive sedan with an optional 350+ horsepower, magnetic shocks, 10 speed transmission?
You can’t even get those options in the higher priced 3 Series, C Class or A4.
Seems several claimed GM fans will never be satisfied no matter what Cadillac produces.
I think they’ll have to discount this car a lot more than $1000 to sell it. I have bought or leased 17 new Cadillacs over the past 39 years and this thing doesn’t have the style or dignity of a Cadillac. Its a GENERIC little car.
I’ve been driving Cadillacs since 2008. On number 3. They have all been reliable comfortable cars that were driven in excess of 100k miles each. and they run on regular gas. EVERYONE who has gotten into one of them loved them. (they had no idea what they were but they loved them.)
I also drive an MB E350, a very good car, but so is my Caddy. I’d buy this car in a minute.
We have a 15 ATS 2.0T. Love the engine, what I cant figure out is every time GM IMPROVES it the power goes down. 265 to 253 to 237????? Wont be long till it 200 or less. Why the reduction in power?????? Oh please dont say the lower tourgu comes in at lower RPM….
its for fuel economy reasons, and torque at lower rpm. It is simply a more efficient engine, but less power. It’s adequate enough for anyone who just wants a luxury sedan to commute with and get good gas mileage, and thats okay for people to want. If you don’t want that, then get the twin turbo v6, its that simple. Why people wring their hands over this I have no clue. Some of the frustration, I believe, is people view it as GM forcing people into higher trim levels to get the twin turbo V6. A valid criticism, for sure. It would be nice to have an option to get a base model or a sport with the V6. But it would also be nice to have a manual option, but we don’t get that either. And to me thats a much bigger sticking point than having to pay a few extra thousand for the V6. I assumed i would have to pony up some extra money for the V6, so that isn’t surprising. I am pretty disappointed at the lack of manual though.
Lose that ugly Nissanish pillar shit and drop in one of the existing V8s into the V (to make it a proper V) and I’ll be glad to check it out. Like all first year cars, it’s just best to wait a year or two. I’m not dropping $30-50k just to be disappointed when the significantly better model comes out and get upside down. The CTS-V would still be my choice as it’s such a better car IMHO all around compared to the CT5-V embarrassment
So GM will make the car less competitive so no one wants it, so they will then pay more to get the car the base car should have been in the beginning????
I thats why they do it. its exactly whats wrong with GM!
I drank GM Kool Aid scene the 1980’s. Not drinking it any more……..
For those interested in making some GM Kool aid at home I have the recipe.
Pour a glass of water. To save costs don’t pour Kool aid mix in glass it costs too much. Drink. YUM!!!!!
I could be prejudiced but I feel the CT-4V with the 3.6 TT will be a seller. Size and performance will be in the wheelhouse of someone who wants a sport sedan. As long as they don’t get crazy with the price point. (Yeah good luck with that)
