The Cadillac Escalade ESV is all-new for the 2021 model year, slotting in as the extended-length body variant of the standard Escalade full-size SUV. In addition to a new design, new underpinnings, and a gamut of new features, the latest Escalade ESV also sports markedly different exterior, interior, and cargo dimensions when compared to the preceding generation. Now, we’re looking at all three of these dimensional measurements for both the new Cadillac Escalade ESV and the previous Cadillac Escalade ESV in the following GM Authority Dimensional Comparison.
Exterior Dimensions
From the outset, the 2021 Cadillac Escalade ESV’s exterior design is quite the departure from the preceding model. However, not all exterior dimensions are bigger this time around, as both the front and rear tracks are narrower, losing 0.2 inches and 0.4 inches, respectively.

2021 Cadillac Escalade ESV vs. Last-Gen Escalade ESV are so similar in size that the only way to tell the two apart is the front fascia, some may suggest it was a waste of time, money and effort especially when the numbers are so similar.
I like the new interior and its definitely an improvement over the previous one but the exterior is rather bland and plain. The new front is okay and the back is basically a rerun of the old model as is the basic power train sans the trick DFM introduced last year. Maybe something other than the dreary all black overkill Sport model will change my mind.
You’re absolutely right! There’s no magic on the exterior. I rather the fading away exterior than the 2021. Truthfully, the interior of the 2021 dashboard is head turning.
I just bought a 2019 Cadillac Escalade ESV. My wife and I are really enjoying it. I bought it over a GMC Denali or a Chevy because the Caddy looked less like a funeral hurst than the other two. To me they have now made the Caddy Escalade look like a hurst. I am very happy to have the 2019. Just my opinion. Others may like it.
Please Bring on the 400 mile Range EV Escalade as promised!
i agree. Come on Mary, your honor is at stake.
If it’s 2 inches taller but headroom decreased, I assume the floor is higher. Is there more ground clearance, or did they just leave room for batteries?
Considering our increasingly older and fatter population, it’s odd that climbing-up vehicles would become so prevalent while low-floor minivans and flat, wide seats all but disappear. Let’s have a low-ride Escalade model.
According to Motor Trend, the maximum cargo capacity for the 2021 Cadillac ESV is 144.7 cu ft.
What is the 126.6 cu ft referring to in this GM Authority article? Wondering if the 126.6 cu ft is the regular size 2021 Escalade?
Thanks
Gar, the maximum cargo capacity listed is for the ESV Escalade, but the 126.6 cu. ft. is “behind” the first row seating.
In researching the 2021 GMC Yukon XL the gmc.com website states that the Yukon XL has “best is class max cargo room of 144.7 cu ft”
I would presume the Cadillac Escalade ESV would have about the same cargo capacity as the Yukon XL
Gar –
The figure we reference is straight from the 2021 Cadillac Escalade press release:
https://media.cadillac.com/media/us/en/cadillac/vehicles/escalade-escalade-esv/2021.tab1.html
Jonathon,
Cadillac has changed and update the Escalade press release.
It now states:
Cargo volume, co ft: 142.8 / 4043 (behind first row)
Thanks Gar, we’re going to look into this a little deeper to see what’s going on.
I must be missing something. I thought the space behind the first row was the area measured for maximum cargo space.
Aside from the absolutely absurd, like a Pagani or a Spyker; this has to be the greatest automotive interior in history.
