1960 Chevrolet Biscayne Is An Unlikely Pro Touring Car

The Chevrolet Biscayne was never intended to be a performance car. The Biscayne was positioned as a large, low-cost family and fleet sedan, so it didn’t attract enthusiasts and drag racer’s the way the Chevrolet Camaro, Nova, Chevelle and other Bow Tie-branded cars of the era did.

That’s exactly what makes this custom 1960 Chevrolet Biscayne pro touring-inspired build so interesting, in our opinion. The car, which is currently listed for sale by Duffy’s Classic Cars in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, has been rebuilt and restored with performance in mind and now features a number of modern-day upgrade parts.

Under the hood of this custom Chevrolet Biscayne sits a 283 cubic-inch V8 with an aluminum intake, an Edelbrock carburetor, a polished aluminum serpentine belt system and an aluminum radiator. It’s not clear if this is the same 283 cu.-in. V8 the car came with, or if the original engine was replaced. A custom exhaust comprised of ceramic coated headers, Magnaflow mufflers and stainless steel, mandrel-bent tailpipes gives the car a more pronounced soundtrack befitting of the car’s muscled-up exterior appearance.

The listing says the 283 cu.-in. V8 engine is paired with a GM Turbo 350 transmission, which sends power to the rear wheels through a 3.55 ratio open rear end.

This car was also upgraded with power disc brakes, new rear drums, a quick-ratio power steering rack and adjustable rear suspension trailing bars. The 17-inch TorqThrust five-spoke wheels enhance the exterior appearance, while sticky Kumho tires, which measure in at 225 mm wide in the front and 245 mm wide in the rear, help keep the car planted through the corners.

The interior has also undergone a restoration and features a billet steering wheel, classic-style aftermarket instruments and a fully-functional AM/FM radio.

Duffy’s Classic Cars says this 1960 Chevrolet Biscayne “is not just one of those cars that look good sitting still, it has been built to drive and enjoy.” The dealership is hoping to get $44,950, which is certainly not cheap for a Biscayne, though this car has undergone some restorative work and features other upgrade parts as well. 2. What a beauty. I remember my dad having one back in the. The dashboard brings back a lot of memories when dad was driving me to my little league games.

  3. Ah memories…and laying in the rear window shelf. Was plenty big, I wasn’t.

  4. A very nice car but 44K is way over the top. Similar cars with LS power, modern transmission, upgraded suspension, nice interior etc. commonly go across the block at Mecum’s in the low 30’s.

  5. Beautiful car yes, pro touring no. Not with drum brakes and stock suspension. I wouldn’t even call this a resto mod.
