The Next-Generation GMC Sierra HD Shows Its Smarts: Video

The 2020 GMC Sierra HD debuted just last year, ushering the heavy-duty pickup offering into an all-new generation. In addition to a longer wheelbase, taller hood line, fresh styling, and greater towing capacity, the new Sierra HD is also replete with modern technology features, several of which are highlighted in the following 30-second video advertisement.

Among those features highlighted is the unique six-function MultiPro Tailgate, which can be configured to better the meet the needs of customers, be it through easier bed access, extra load length, or several other purposes.

There’s also an available Rear Camera Mirror, which makes hooking up a trailer a breeze. What’s more, the optional ProGrade Trailering System includes a variety of settings to make things even easier on the road, and includes an industry-first available Transparent Trailer View to see what’s directly behind whatever is hitched up.

Looking ahead, the GMC Sierra HD is offered with an Multicolor 15-inch Diagonal Head-Up Display that projects a plethora of information right onto the windscreen, providing easy viewing while on the move.

“Trailering is the most important consideration for Sierra Heavy Duty customers, and the new features and technologies in the 2020 Sierra HD make it easier than ever the hitch a trailer and tow it confidently,” said chief engineer for Heavy Duty Trucks, Jaclyn McQuaid, at the vehicle’s launch last year.

Under the hood, the latest GMC Sierra HD features the Duramax 6.6L turbodiesel L5P V8 engine, which is tuned to deliver an SAE-certified 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque. The ‘eight connects to a new 10-speed Allison automatic transmission (which is actually not exactly an Allison) with close-ratio gearing that optimizes engine operation, no matter the load or terrain.

All told, the all-new GMC Sierra HD can tow more than 30,000 pounds.

  1. The next generation heavy duty intelligence is a total scam! I watched the video of the tailgate back in July 2019, i was planning to order a 2020 Chevrolet or GMC as soon as it was possible. I decided to get the GMC because I really liked the way it appeared to work in the video. I ordered the truck in late July early August, took 4 months to get it. I have tried everything to push buttons and have the primary gate and the secondary gate open as shown in the Video. I could be doing something wrong and was was going to talk to the dealer at my new truck orientation. The way I read the manual the primary gate will not open unless the secondary gate is locked in place. Clearly false advertising!

    1. Philip Keehnel,

That is false, Mine will open either or both whatever you need, and has nothing to do with one or the other !
The video does not show him pushing the buttons as they need to be pushed within 2 seconds or so of each other to make it happen like it shows.
While writing this I went and did it on mine just to make sure again as to not give you false information, and it works just as shown !
Push the top button followed immediately by pushing the bottom button and it will fall just like the video !

Go get help figuring this out, it is awesome and I use it as so !

  2. the tail gate is to complicated. the people that own the trucks cant figure it out. lifelonggmowner above just said he had to go check how to make sure it works, INSANE !! , and don’t forget ,in order to use the tail gate, remove the hitch receiver. GM bad designs keep flowing along with cheap quality. all these new 80K plus trucks have cheap black plastics all over them. Cheap looking trucks.

  3. Fancy tailgate, but no adaptive cruse control! GMC 1500 has it. Ford and RAM HD trucks have it. Shame on you GMC…you talk about being “professional grade” but you are behind your competition!!!!

    1. Yep that’s the truth, its the bean counters !!

GM is simply to cheap to keep up, always at least two years behind !

By the time they get it right, they cant figure out why people aren’t buying it, yet two years behind again !
