A new iHeartRadio app is coming to General Motors vehicles this year, which will enable in-market and future Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac owners to access to iHeartRadio podcasts and playlists directly from their vehicle’s infotainment system.
iHeartRadio already offers an in-vehicle app for Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac vehicles, however the application only supports the use of the company’s Live Radio and Artist Radio functions. With this new app, listeners will be able to access podcasts and playlists via the in-vehicle app, as well.
“By integrating with the most innovative automotive companies on the market, iHeartRadio enables consumers to access the music, podcasts and personalities they love, whenever and wherever they are, on any device,” the company said in a prepared statement.
iHeartRadio first launched its dedicated in-vehicle app for GM vehicles back in 2017. The app gives GM owners access to iHeartRadio’s free, all-in-one digital music and streaming radio service, allowing them to choose from thousands of live broadcast radio stations and create their own custom stations based on a catalog of millions of songs and artists.
Additionally, iHeartRadio said it will soon release a new standalone version of its app for vehicles with infotainment systems that run on Android Automotive, such as those from Volvo, and BMW vehicles that use the automaker’s new ConnectedDrive operating system. iHeartMedia’s president of strategic partnerships, Michele Laven, said the company “will continue to expand our audio offerings and connect with more and more marquee technology companies to provide a seamless, unmatched audio experience to consumers.”
iHeartRadio announced its new in-vehicle applications during this week’s 2020 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. The company did not say when the updated app will become available in GM vehicles, though it is expected to launch before the end of the year. It will be available on future GM vehicles, as well as existing GM vehicles via an update.
