GM Partners With Geotab To Offer New Fleet Management Solution

General Motors has partnered with fleet management company Geotab to launch the new Geotab Integrated Solution for GM vehicles.

This solution pairs up with the pre-embedded OnStar module found in most modern day GM vehicles, allowing fleet operators to access data from their GM fleet vehicles within the MyGeotab platform that they may already be using. This prevents the need for them to install an aftermarket system to track and manage their fleet vehicles, leveraging the OnStar module that already comes with the vehicle.

“GM Fleet and Geotab have many of the same customers and we want to provide them with the tools they need to run their business effectively and efficiently,” explained GM Fleet’s U.S. vice present, Ed Peper.“The Geotab Integrated Solution for GM will enable fleet managers to have increased visibility into vehicle productivity, location data and more.”

“With the Geotab Integrated Solution for GM, compatible fleets will be equipped with advanced telematics tools that provide a deep dive into vehicle information such as fuel usage, vehicle health and driver behavior,” added Geotab vice president for strategic partnerships, Sherry Calkins.

The company says that vehicles using the Geotab Integrated Solution for GM vehicles will also have the “added benefit of access to the Geotab Marketplace —an exclusive online portfolio of mobile apps, hardware add-ons and software add-ins that enable Geotab customers to further customize their fleet management solution.” Apps in the marketplace include engine diagnostics programs, a driver safety scoring app and a fuel tracker. Geotab says the GM integrated solution is currently only available in the U.S., but it has plans to expand to include vehicles in Canada in the coming months. GM also recently launched a similar in-house fleet management solution via OnStar, which uses the same standard OnStar connection module the Geotab solution taps into.
