GM Canada sales decreased 11 percent to 256,795 units during the complete 2019 calendar year. Sales increased at Cadillac while decreasing at Chevrolet, GMC and Buick.
“We achieved solid year-end results in 2019,” said Sandor Piszar, vice president, sales, service and marketing, GM Canada. “As Canadian consumer preferences shifted significantly toward crossovers, SUVs and pickups in 2019, we remain well positioned for success in 2020 with our full lineup, and several new entries in key growing segments featuring the latest in technology, functionality and design,” he added.
Buick solidified its place as brand focused on utilities in 2019 to align with Canada’s largest and fastest growing segment. Buick Envision sales reflected that focus with total sales up 8.6 percent for the calendar year.
Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 total sales were up 2.9 percent in 2019. A focus on light-duty Crew Cabs models paid off, with total sales up 18.5 percent for the calendar year.
Specialty models like the GMC Sierra AT4 and Sierra Denali as well as the Chevrolet Custom TrailBoss and LT TrailBoss have also been making significant waves, becoming the fastest-selling editions on the market.
Wow, Chevrolet needs to do some interior TLC to the Equinox (ugly base screen) to bring those numbers up.
Kneecapping the Oshawa plant was horrible for brand image in Canada.
RAV4/CRV/SanteFe are eating GMs lunch. Will GM fight back?
Yup throwing thousands of workers from the two Oshawa plants as well as the thousands of supplier workers to the curb doesn’t help matters . Plus the fact their friends and family members have sworn off GM because of the plant closing will take a great deal of time to correct.
GM has decided they are happy being a niche player but they only have a best seller in one segment ( Large SUVs). They have fallen to 3rd in pickups and rightfully so since their interiors look more dated than the truck it replaces. Walking away from passenger cars is such a poor decision since there are still millions of cars sold.
