ALG, the vehicle value analytics subsidiary of TrueCar Inc., announced the ALG 2020 Innovation Award winners recently, with the Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD picking up the win in the Technology Innovation category thanks to the pickups’ advanced trailering camera system. Rival contenders for the accolade included all 2020 model-year vehicles on sale in the U.S.
“In its second year, ALG’s Innovation Awards recognize the vehicles leading the way with cutting-edge technology, ingenious features and state-of-the art design,” reads an ALG press release announcing the latest award recipients.
The latest awards will be presented to the winning automaker in advance of the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES), which is slated to kick off in Las Vegas this week.
“The all-new 2020 GMC Sierra HD trucks use eight available cameras to provide a surround view, bed view, and the first-ever transparent trailer view,” ALG explains.
“The numerous camera views are seamlessly integrated in the eight-inch infotainment screen and provide increased safety while making towing a less daunting task,” the organization adds.
We’ve outlined all 15 different camera views offered by the 2020 GMC Sierra and ProGrade Trailering System in a previous post. Indeed, the ability to see through the trailer behind the pickup is extremely useful. The tech essentially uses a standard backup camera and accessory camera mounted on the trailer to create a wide-angle view that makes the trailer appear invisible on the infotainment screen in the cabin. Additional views include a look at the hitch, a rear top-down view, inside the trailer, and many others.
Further ALG award winners this year include the Kia Telluride in the Design category, the Ford Escape Hybrid in the Powertrain category, and the Mercedes-Benz GLS in the Convenience category.
