The Chevrolet Equinox was the best-selling vehicle in Michigan in 2019, outperforming both the Chevrolet Silverado and Ford F-150 pickup trucks in General Motors’ and Ford’s home state.
Not surprisingly, pickup trucks dominated U.S. automotive sales in 2019. According to automotive data-tracking site iSeeCars.com, the Ford F-150 remained the most popular new vehicle in the United States last year and was also the best-selling vehicle in 22 states. The Chevrolet Silverado was the most popular vehicle in nine states, while the GMC Sierra and Toyota Tacoma each earned the title of best-seller in one state.
The Equinox proved it can punch above its weight, though, with its approachable price tag and practicality helping to make it the best-selling vehicle not only in Michigan, but in Ohio, Illinois and Indiana, too. It seems the American Midwest has a soft spot for Chevy’s compact crossover.
“The Chevrolet Equinox is among the most affordable vehicles in its class and has favorable reliability and fuel economy, which makes it an attractive option for used car buyers,” said iSeeCars CEO Phong Ly. “These SUVs are all in the compact category, which shows that more used car buyers favor smaller SUVs that aren’t expensive as their larger counterparts.”
Some of the Equniox’s competitors also performed well, with the Toyota RAV4 claiming the title of best-selling vehicle in Vermont and Maryland and the Nissan Rogue taking the designation in Connecticut and Rhode Island.
Not surprisingly, almost every state’s best-selling vehicle was a pickup truck or SUV/crossover. The Honda Civic was the best-selling car in California, however, while the Honda Accord was the best-selling vehicle in New Jersey. The Nissan Altima claimed the top sales spot in Maryland, as well.

The Chevy Equinox (I have a 2009 model) is the best made and selling crossover in the U.S. because not even the Ford Escape can beat it! But GM lost a gran opportunity to beat all the other brands by not offering a hybrid or even an electric Equinox model. If GM doesn’t offer one by 2022, then the Equinox will drop from its lead.
sorry to burst your bubble but the cr-v and rav4 both outsell the equinox in the segment.
But Steve,
GM only competes with GM.
Don’t complicate things by trying to be the best at anything !!
I’m sure at GM this vehicle is just ” Good Enough “
At Honda:
Road noise complaints with the HR-V & CR-V
Passport has been a miss
Pilot sales are falling
RDX & MDX- sales have started to drop & Acura no longer considered a luxury brand by Honda.
At Toyota:
C-HR & Lexus UX both flopped
Sequoia, Land Cruiser, Lexus GX & Lexus LX have been on the market unchanged forever sales no longer significant.
Highlander, 4Runner, Lexus RX Lexus NX all down last year.
RAV4 bravo Toyota you got 1 winner.
At GM
Trax, Trailblazer, Equinox, Blazer, Traverse, Tahoe, Suburban. Terrain, Acadia, Yukon, Encore, Encore GX, Envision, Enclave, XT4, XT5, XT6, Escalade.
Train kept rolling all night long
Train kept rolling all night long
Train kept rolling all night long
and just when you thought it was over. I hear another train coming.
Midsized Buick crossover, Bolt EV crossover, Cadillac EV crossovers & Escalade, Hummer.
Peter G,
I love your wording here, and there is nothing that would make me happier than GM surpassing ONE competitor !!
And I also LOVE the new stuff coming, as Corvette, and full-sized SUVs, and we will see.
Yet anything before that, like the new Cadillacs, other than the Escalade yet to come, are just more of the average GM blah ” Good Enough ” vehicles.
Truck interiors for the price, blah !
Cadillac average power, blah !
And the never ending flow of compact, sub-compact, and mid-sized SUVs, blah !
I realize the train is always coming at GM, yet when it gets here it is ALWAYS loaded with the SAME THING !!!
I do however see some good things, and here some good things, yet some are just , WHAT !
Like I have said,
New Corvette – great !
New Full-size Chevrolet, Better !
New Escalade – Great !
New Yukon – Great for what we have been shown !
Other than that, the whole list of GMs from the Trax to the XT6 you listed above are average GM blah.
And I know the train keeps rolling all night long.
But when the competitions train is also rolling all night long, and you are on the same track, and you are behind you will need to do something better to get past their train !
Its the same thing as a race track, when your in second, its easier than first ! And it takes an extra effort to pass and then maintain the lead !
So sure the GM train is a Rollin all night long.
So it the competitions train is a Rollin all night long !
And for the past 30 or so years, this has been the GM trouble, GM ego says our train is ahead, yet GM is always 2 years behind at least !
Are you able to write a simple sentence or paragraph instead of continually copying and pasting your propaganda.
Nope !
I am sorry David GM has horrible customer service.
O that’s right GM does not have ANY customer support !
GM has a referral support system, kick the can, blame the dealer, customer support system.
I think if GM added one or two more layers to their lack of support it could get even better.
Maybe you could call a number, then they could call a number then they could call a number than you could get a manager of a manager of a region of a manager to direct you to a dealer manager who would direct you to a service manager to direct you to a service advisor to direct you to a service tech who could direct you to a senior tech, WOW !!
That sounds like it should work, lets try that !!
I wish I could sell GM a known faulty part, collect millions from GM but then when the junk parts I sold GM fail, watch GM do NOTHING for the people GM sold the known faulty parts to.
I think the FCC just fined Boeing for installing and buying and using ” known faulty parts “, yet GM seems to have done it daily !!
But I guess we just have to wait until a ” known faulty part ” kills a couple hundred people, before someone makes GM fix the faulty parts they are selling the public !
Good enough for you David ?
I think, about the rite length, you think ?

Here we go again.
The Equinox is a very good product – especially with the 2.0L Turbo.
Chevrolet hit the market just about directly on target for this crossover. The buyers of the Equinox seem very happy.
Looking forward to seeing the refresh for 2021. I hope they enable a defeat switch for the auto start/stop system and give the ‘Nox full LED lighting.
When will the disgusting fish mouth design disappear?
I took a good long look at the Equinox Premier 4cyl. and compared it to the Subaru Forester Touring. For the money and standard features, the Subaru is way ahead.

I love my 2019 2.0T AWD. One of the best cars I’ve ever owned.
The 2020 Equinox now has many of the safety features as standard equipment. This will help the good Equinox be even more competitive with the Honda, Toyota, and Subaru SUV’s. GM has finally figured out safety is one the most important features people are looking for, and it should be standard on all GM vehicles instead of people having to pay extra for it. Also, some of the new colors like that nice looking midnight blue metallic will also help it remain competitive.
This is one problem with domestic carmakers, they make most of vehicles only for Michigan. When a car finally a hit on the “both coasts” they’ll cancel it…
My sentiments exactly!
This shows how much crossovers have taken over. So what is GM’s plan for all the coasts? I have not seen a consistent well thought out plan from GM for reestablishing market dominance or even significant competitiveness on both coasts. I question GM’s resolve and management capacity if they cant plant themselves firmly on the west and east coasts with their products.
GM must return to being ubiquitous in the minds of Americans. Which means persistent brand presence and awareness. To do this takes marketing know how, something GM has thrown out the window. GM claim to fame was not just engineering quality styling and production, but its prodigious marketing power. Get right on both coasts in your own home market, GM or you’ll never ever be respected.
Bring back the Cruze, please. That’s the best car I’ve ever driven
