2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD Launches In The Middle East

The 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD has launched in the Middle East, marking the first time the heavy-duty pickup has officially been offered for sale in the region.

We first reported the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado was destined for the Middle Eastern market last fall, but the truck has now begun to arrive in the country and is set to go on sale at local Chevrolet dealerships shortly.

In a statement, Chevrolet Middle East brand boss Farah Amhaz said she expected the truck “will be a hit with trucking fans and heavy-duty fleet operators across the region.” General Motors seems to be positioning the truck mostly as a fleet vehicle in the Middle East, with the automaker also saying in a press release that its large towing capacity makes it “the perfect truck for heavy-duty fleet operators,” in the area.

The 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD will only be available in the Middle East with the new, naturally-aspirated 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine, which makes 401 horsepower and 463 pound-feet of torque in the truck. The 6.6L engine is mated to GM’s six-speed automatic transmission, with the Allison-branded 10-speed automatic-only available with the 6.6L L5P Duramax diesel engine. GM has not said if it has plans to eventually offer the Duramax engine with the Chevrolet Silverado HD in the Middle East.

Trim levels offered in the region will also be limited to Work Truck, LT, and LTZ models, while two cab sizes and bed lengths will also be offered. That means Middle Eastern customers won’t be able to get the Chevrolet Silverado HD Trail Boss, though Chevy does offer the Silverado 1500 in Trail Boss trim in the region. Middle Eastern buyers also get a handful of market exclusive truck models from GM: the Silverado RST  and Trail Boss Regular Cab and the GMC Sierra Elevation and AT4 Regular Cab.

These market exclusive models, along with the launch of new products like the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD, are indicative of GM’s increased truck marketing and sales efforts globally. GM is looking to leverage its already strong truck programs any way it can, with the vehicles offering very strong margins compared to cars, sedans and small crossovers.

The 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD in WT trim starts at AED 147,600 in the Middle East, while the mid-range LT starts at AED 179,200 and the range-topping LTZ starts at AED 203,900.
