Back in 2017, Chevy unveiled the Colorado ZR2 AEV Concept at SEMA, and the response was so positive, a production version dropped just two years later. Built in collaboration with aftermarket off-road manufacturer American Expedition Vehicles (AEV), the 2020 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison is replete with specialized equipment and features that make it the perfect choice for tackling the great outdoors. Now, we’re taking another look at the Bison in the following GM Authority Live Photo Gallery.
Starting up front, we find an exclusive “flow-through” grille bar stamped with Chevrolet lettering. Below the grille is an AEV front bumper, while exclusive fog lamps take a position at the bumper’s outer edges. The 2020 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison is also offered with an AEV air snorkel, an option this particular example does not have.
The profile reveals upgraded wheel moldings. There’s also a two-inch lift, with upwards of 8.6 inches of suspension travel in front, and 10 inches of suspension travel in the rear. Multimatic integrated spool-valve dampers keep it all under control.
AEV 17-inch wheels keep it all rolling, with Goodyear Wrangler all-terrain rubber measured at 265/65R17 providing the traction. The rear end is finished with an AEV rear bumper.
Inside, the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison comes with new front and rear floor liners, as well as embroidered headrests.
Extensive protective components can be found underneath the truck, with skid plates in place to shield the fuel tank, transfer case, and rear differential.
Motivation is sourced from the naturally aspirated 3.6L LGZ V6 engine, which throws down 308 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque, mating to the GM M5T 8-speed automatic transmission. The Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison is also offered with the optional 2.8L LWN four-cylinder diesel, which doles out 181 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, and mates to the GM MYB six-speed automatic transmission.
The Chevrolet Colorado Bison is offered in five different exterior colors, including (RPO codes listed in parentheses) Red Hot (G7C), Satin Steel Metallic (G9K), Silver Ice Metallic (GAN), Summit White (GAZ), Black (GBA). Buyers can get it in one of two cab-and-bed configurations, including the Extended Cab/Long Box configuration, and the Crew Cab/Short Box configuration.

The ZR2 Bison looks great, accept for thang , It need larger tires ! I have said it before, I own a 2015 Colorado LT 2wheel drive 4D crew cab long bed with HD Towing package ! The first time I had a blow out my gravel Rd , I replace the p265- 55 -17 with LT 265 -70 E tires and they fit with out a bit problems ! So take it from experience , Add larger tires , to the ZR2 ‘s Colorado ! That might help sales !
” naturally aspirated 3.6L LGZ V8 engine”? Shouldn’t that be a V6?
Ugh. Yes. Thank you for calling that out.
Freudian slip for Barra to put one in….
