GM relaunched the Chevrolet Blazer nameplate as a crossover utility vehicle for the 2019 model year. The 2020 model year represents the second model year of the reincarnated nameplate, for which the Blazer is getting a few changes. So, here’s what’s new and different for the 2020 Chevrolet Blazer.
Exterior
It all starts on the outside, with the Blazer deleting one exterior color and adding three new ones:
New colors:
- Iridescent Pearl Tricoat
- Bright Blue Metallic
- Midnight Blue Metallic
- Iridescent Pearl Tricoat
- Midnight Blue
- 2020 Chevrolet Blazer RS
- Kinetic Blue Metallic
The two remaining exterior changes include the addition of two LPO-level options. These items include the Black Grille Bar Package and a Decal Package, which includes bodyside lower decals with a checkered flag design as well as hood and liftgate decals.
Interior
Inside, the 2020 Chevrolet Blazer aims to address the somewhat-hated automatic engine stop/start system by adding a disable switch to the cabin. As such, owners who prefer to have the fuel-saving system disabled can drive with it turned off.
There’s also the addition of the Hitch Guidance with Hitch View feature as well as newly-available embroidered front row headrests with the Blazer script (as an LPO-level option).
Mechanical
Mechanically, the 2020 Chevrolet Blazer adds the turbo-charged 2.0 I4 LSY engine as standard equipment on 2LT and 3LT models. It’s paired to the GM 9-speed automatic transmission with a 3.47 final drive axle ratio. Meanwhile, the carry-over atmospheric 2.5L I4 LCV remains as the base engine, while the 3.6L V6 LGX engine becomes an option on 2LT and 3LT and standard on RS and Premier. With the addition of the boosted four-banger, the Blazer’s engine lineup now looks like this:
L | 1LT | 2LT | 3LT | RS | Premier | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Atmospheric 2.5L I-4 LCV | S | S | - | - | - | - |
Turbo 2.0L I-4 LSY | - | - | S | S | - | - |
Atmospheric 3.6L V-6 LGX | - | - | A | A | S | S |
- S = Standard
- A = Available
- – = Not Available
The last change to the mechanical side is the addition of a remote start kit (as an LPO-level option).
Packages
Finally, there are various changes to the packages of the 2020 Chevrolet Blazer. First is the addition of Blazer Redline Edition (RPO Code WBL) as interim availability feature. Package includes the following content:
- 20-inch Gloss Black painted aluminum wheels with Red accents
- Black Blazer badges with Red outline
- Black grille, header bar, window surround, mirror caps and base, door handles, front and rear bowties
- Redline decals (LPO)
It is available only on the 2LT and 3LT models and has the following availability requirements:
On 2LT:
- Requires Convenience and Driver Confidence Package
- Requires Jet Black interior
- Requires exterior color (GAN) Silver Ice Metallic, (GAZ) Summit White or (GBA) Black
- Not available with the following LPOs: PDJ, RIK, S2D, SFZ, SJ9
On 3LT:
- Requires Jet Black interior
- Requires exterior color (GAN) Silver Ice Metallic, (GAZ) Summit White or (GBA) Black
- Not available with the following LPOs: PDJ, RIK, S2D, SFZ, SJ9
Separately, the power sunroof and SP3, RQM and R0Y wheels are now available as free flow options, while Sun and Wheels Package is no longer offered. LED headlamps are now part of the Enhanced Convenience and Driver Confidence II Package on RS and the Driver Confidence II Package on Premier.
Rounding out the changes is the standardization of the road emergency tool kit as standard on 1LT, and the renaming of Forward Automatic Braking to Enhanced Automatic Emergency Braking.

Comments
Live to dream.. imagine even if a lower horsepower variant of the 490 hp 6.2L V8 was made available in the 2020 Blazer, given that the Blazer has an optional 3.6L DOHC-4v V6 means that there’s ample room for the small block V8 as they could potentially sell out the entire Blazer factory capacity if the 490 hp V8 was made available.
dreaming on a 6.2 in that never happen
Omeg.. >> GREAT IDEA. GM be a leader, NOT a ‘hum-drum’ every vehicle is for the masses —excluding the Corvette which does not haul ‘stuff’.
I have a 2019 Blazer RS that I really enjoy. It’s the red hot color with 21″ black wheels. I’ve gotten many positive comments from people concerning how sporty it looks. The only thing that’s missing is fog lights. Now it looks like they’re not on the 2020 models either. Why not??
Love the red hot. Blue happens to be my favorite color, but I’m torn between the red hot and the bright blue metallic. I’ll be ordering my 2020 soon. I wish those colors were available in the premier. Glad that they have the disable button for the start/stop feature in the 2020. My Trailblazer has fog lights and I never use them, even in the fog.
it seems like a trend at gm get rid of fog lights everybody talks about safety enhancements these days IMO fog lights are a basic safety item and now only top trims have fog lights make a no sense to me
No thanx Mexico
not worth 50k+ no wonder there a slow seller
Yes, live to dream of a better future. How about a Bolt drivetrain with a 100+KW battery. Performance & economy. Dare to dream ?
There aren’t many on the streets of Dallas.
the first new should be it is now built in the USA and too expensive which makes it not competitive
Its built in Mexico
Chevy missed on this entire line. With their great new trucks, why not re-introduce the blazer in the fashion of a large 4×4 similar to the old K-5. ‘Merica!
The “Jet Black” interior continues the long and rich legacy of incredibly crappy black interiors for GM…. $50K for this…. this company is run by idiots…
