2020 Buick Encore GX Makes Canadian Debut At Montreal International Auto Show

The 2020 Buick Encore GX just made its Canadian debut at the 2020 Montreal International Auto Show, dropping in as a fresh premium subcompact crossover from the Tri-Shield brand.

The new Buick Encore GX initially hit North America at the 2019 Los Angeles Show in November. Prior to that, we got a look at the crossover at the 2019 Shanghai Motor Show earlier in 2019.

Now, Canadian audiences have a chance to check it out in the metal in Montreal. The show opens up to the public today. Tickets start at CA$14 for seniors and students, while general admission tickets are CA$17.00.

As for the Buick Encore GX, the specs are expected to match those of the U.S. version that showed in L.A. last year. Based on GM’s VSS-F vehicle set, the Buick Encore GX slots in above standard Buick Encore and below the Buick Envision with regard to the brand’s crossover lineup, essentially classifying it as a “subcompact-plus” model.

Motivation is sourced from the turbocharged 1.2L LIH three-cylinder gas engine as standard, which is tuned to produce upwards of 137 horsepower and 166 pound-feet of torque. A CVT automatic will handle the transmission duties.

Extra oomph can be had with the optional turbocharged 1.3L L3T three-cylinder gas engine, which is tuned to produce 155 horsepower and 174 pound-feet of torque.

Both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive will put the power to the pavement. The GM nine-speed automatic transmission is offered in conjunction with models equipped with the 1.3L L3T engine and all-wheel-drive.

Standard safety tech includes Forward Collision Alert, Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, a Following Distance Indicator, and IntelliBeam headlamps.

Stay tuned, as we’ll have further debuts from the 2020 Montreal International Auto Show posted soon. In the meantime, subscribe to GM Authority for more Buick Encore news, Buick news, and around-the-clock GM news coverage.

  1. I think GM is going to do good with this vehicle… It’s Big enough, Nice Enough and affordable enough to appeal to many people…As long as it drives good and feels good this will be a huge seller

  2. I believe it’s a mistake to offer only 3 cylinder engines in this and the regular Encore. I only see one engine for the regular Encore, and it’s an UNDERPOWERED less that 140 HP unit. These cars need 165+ horsepower.
