The 2020 Buick Encore GX May Offer A Heated Windshield: Exclusive

The new 2020 Buick Encore GX was unveiled for the North American market just last month at the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show, hitting the West Coast after a global debut at the 2019 Shanghai Motor Show earlier in the year. The new subcompact crossover offers a plethora of content, but there’s one feature that’s gone unannounced so far – a heated windshield.
While we wait for final confirmation that the new Buick Encore GX will indeed offer this relatively rare feature for the subcompact crossover segment, evidence of its inclusion comes from an official Buick press image, which shows off the GX’s center console. Zooming in on the right-hand controls, we find a button with a symbol on it that resembles a windshield with an EKG machine readout on it. This symbol can only be one thing – a heated windshield.
Further evidence that the 2020 Buick Encore GX will offer a heated windshield comes from the 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer, which also features a similar button on its center console. Stay tuned, as we’ll cover that in a follow-up post tomorrow.
To note, the Buick Encore GX and Chevrolet Trailblazer are very closely related, sharing the same GM VSS-F vehicle platform and engine lineup as well. To our knowledge, no other GM product currently offers a heated windshield feature, other than potentially the new Chevy Trailblazer.
Availability and details are obviously still under wraps, but it’s possible the feature will be offered as part of a package, or even through an as-of-yet unannounced Buick Encore GX Avenir trim level.
It’s also possible the image at the top of this post comes from a pre-production model and the feature didn’t make the cut, although that seems unlikely.
Either way, we’ll follow this story to see how it develops, so make sure to subscribe to GM Authority for more Buick Encore news, Buick news and around-the-clock GM news coverage.
Well, considering how little heat the 1.3L is likely to put out, a heated windshield will be a necessity in northern climates. I’ve driven the current Encore on occasion in sub -20c conditions and it has difficulty keeping the windows clear
Never had a problem using the defog feature on the encore in any climate. Do you have it set up the right way?
Yes, and some people mistakenly put on the recirculation cycle in the winter, and wonder why they can’t keep fog off their windshield.
My ’63 Riviera has a Heated Windshield, too.
It’s the “Defrost” Lever.
Rear defrost is faster and doesn’t require heat or humidity adjustments to feel comfortable while defrost is on. With enough spare battery juice, you wouldn’t need to run the engine to clear the windshield. I can wait for the heat, but not a clear windshield when I’m in a rush. Only useful in northern climates.
This would be a fantastic addition in electric cars.
