When General Motors revealed the 2020 Buick Encore GX and 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer crossovers at the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show last month, the automaker didn’t share full details regarding available comfort and convenience features. So GM Authority started to dig a little.
Upon looking at official interior photos provided by GM, we noticed two features in the Encore GX that weren’t mentioned in a press release or during the vehicle’s presentation – ventilated front seats and a heated windshield. Following the publication of our story on the matter, General Motors confirmed to us that these features would actually not be available in the new Encore GX. Simply put, the pictures of the climate control interface were computer-generated, and the vented seats and heated windshield buttons were included as a mistake.
Meanwhile, some eagle-eye readers written to us asking about a similar heated windshield button they spotted on the interior photos of the 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The General’s answer is the same as for the Encore GX: the Trailblazer won’t offer a heated windshield, nor ventilated front seats, about which we previously reported.
To our knowledge, no other GM product currently offers a heated windshield. Granted, it’s a relatively rare feature for the subcompact crossover segment, but certainly one that would be appreciated by many. While adding convenience for those buyers living in colder climates, the feature also enhances safety by improving visibility in snowy/icy conditions.
Although The General’s answer was clear, we think these would make for great features for a range-topping Trailblazer model, such as the Premier. Previously, we exclusively reported on the 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer’s trim level cadence as we know it thus far, and the Premier trim was not part of the lineup.
But with that said, it would be somewhat odd to see a heated windshield available in one of the most-affordable Chevy crossover models.
For example, positioned right above the Trailblazer in the brand’s lineup, the Chevrolet Equinox offers the Confidence & Convenience II package, which adds a heated steering wheel, front passenger eight-way power adjustment with power lumbar support, and heated rear outboard seats. However, a heated windshield is not available. Even the 2021 Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe full-size SUVs unveiled last week won’t offer this feature, and pictures of its climate control stack don’t show any spacers that would add a heated windshield button.

That’s it, it’s toast in the market.
Live to dream that the 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer design cues could be adopted by the 2021 Chevy Yukon.
