The Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD will receive several minor enhancements for the 2021 model year, sources familiar with the product have told GM Authority. The updates will be focused around various in-vehicle technology features currently on offer with the heavy-duty pickup models.
One of the main areas of improvement for the 2021 model-year pickups will be the software and trailering camera systems, which recently received a major upgrade with the latest generational changeover executed for the 2020 model year.
To note, both the Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD currently offer upwards of 15 unique camera views to keep an on eye on the space around the truck. Thanks to this elaborate camera system, drivers can view angles immediately ahead of the pickup, to the sides, behind the bed, around the hitch, inside the bed, several top-down views, behind the trailer, and many, many others.
The 2021 Chevrolet Silverado HD and 2021 GMC Sierra HD pickups will launch in the summer of the 2020 calendar year, as per the standard model rollover sequence. The 2021 trucks will be the second model year of the current generation of HD pickups from Chevrolet and GMC.
Beyond the updated tech, the new trucks are not expected to receive significant styling changes for the 2021 model year. That may come as a surprise for those critics out there that have come out in force against the Silverado HD for its updated fascia and styling, but despite the criticism, the all-new 2020 Silverado HD is practically flying off dealer lots, representing an impressive 40-percent chunk of Chevrolet Silverado HD sales for the month of October 2019.

I was just admiring a 2020 Silverado HD in a parking lot and I have to say in person they look pretty good.
Been seeing a ton of new Sierras and Silverados the past few months. Can’t say the same for RAM though
I’ve seen Sierra’s. They look fine in any trim from the front. I’ve yet to see a Silverado HD on the road that’s not a High Country though. There’s maybe 7 or 8 of them rolling around our city. I think they just need to stick that front end on it across the board and offer it with chrome bumpers.
Wouldn’t expect many changes for 2021n particularly with the sales being so good.
Any updates coming for the 2021 4500/5500/6500 Silverado HD’s?
There are many more new Rams on the road than GM
You mean Chevrolet. GM sells more pickup trucks than Ram.
GM why are your seats so hard my neighbor has a 2020 ltz Duramax 2500 and sitting in that truck is like sitting on a sheet of ply wood !!! My 2015 ram work truck with vinyl seats is more comfortable and my personal 2019 f 350 power stroke lariat is beyond comfortable
So still no new interiors? It almost seems as if GM does not want your business.
I love Chevrolet’s but they have come alittle outrageous on design and price,I will stay with the old ones I will never buy one of these trucks looking the way they do now.
My understanding is that the 1500 will get the interior up grade for 21 and the HD’s for 22. As it is, the interior is not the dumpster fire that many would claim it to be. The 2020 HD’s are now common place here, the area dealers only have a couple left. I think that is do mostly to the strike. Many ordered trucks are still trying to find their way to the dealer. The year end truck rush was really hurt by the strike. Here everyone buys trucks at the end of the year to avoid taxes. Not a lot to chose from right now. The DRW 2020 wont be here until Feb. I was told today. All that is going to hurt year end sales at least for GM.
While you may well be correct and knowing GM this would not come as a total surprise. That said, to me it makes no sense to upgrade the 1500 interiors and not do the HD’s at the same time. Manufacturing two different sets of interiors for what is essentially one vehicle adds expense GM could simply avoid, and possibly will cause problems if parts get intermixed.
GM is losing sales to both Ford and Ram due to the interiors. While they may not be “dumpster fires” they are still the worst when compared to the competition.
I just wish GM would strive to be the leader in the industry.
Cliff, shane Kaiser,
Well it should be a ” dumpster fire ”
I have a 2020 HD Denali, and the dash of this truck, IS a ” dumpster fire ”
I however like the seats, materials of the interior , but NOT the dash !!
The dash is a bunch of hodge podge pieces stuffed together in no relevant manor.
The center stack screen area, other than the to small cheap screen ( need a 10 ” ) looks like it is vomiting with the cheap plastic drooping downward.
Now it MIGHT be ok for a lower trim cheaper truck, but the top of the line Denali.
My opinion is it looks horrible and cheap !!
This truck is a awesome truck, I am very, very happy with it, other than the cheap, horrible looking dash !!
However if GM think I am going to spend another $20,000 to get an interior that should have been in this truck, they are CRAZY.
But I am just one loyal GM customer giving my honest opinion !!
Still bought one, but to all you dealer owners here, that does not mean we like them.
And as some here have said, ” who cares ” must have been ” Good Enough ” sure it is ” Good Enough ” but that does NOT mean we will yell it to the mountain tops we like it and recommend it to our neighbor.
I’ve been a Chevy guy forever but the new HD ‘s look like SHIT ! Gm totally wrecked the truck it looks like a bull dog . I think the got the idea from the movie Family Vacation with Chevy Chase when he bought that green station wagon! Wake up Gm ! While puts the signal light above the headlights? Ford doesn’t dumb shit like that ! The boxes now are as tall as the fords inside ,you can’t even reach over the side to grab anything ! The truck are so square off like the fords .What happened to the classic v-nose front .And I haven’t yet to see one on the road . The gmc hd looks better ! Gm WAKE UP !!!! Quite messing with the chevy trucks go experiment on the GMC ‘s .I wouldn’t be caught dead in the ugly lookin truck ! I’ll keep driving my 1998 1 ton crew cab and my 2012 crew cab when the truck had so curves and style . The Colorado Has better lines ! WAKE THE HELL UP !!!!
Lifelong, I guess it is subjective. I own an ’18 LTZ and I am happy with the interior, I have test drove the 2020 LTZ, I didn’t find it substantially different, but some updates were immediately noticed. Going from an SLT to a Denali or LTZ to a HC has never resulted in a different layout. Different inserts and so forth on the dash and doors, different leather on the seats but that has been about it, that is why I never buy those trim levels. I could, but I don’t see any extra value for the money being spent. Moving the brake controller to the right side and other small layout changes, I think actually make it a better interior. The infotainment is improved from my LTZ, and I immediately liked it. If your after bling, this isn’t your interior, and maybe that is what your looking for, no harm in that, I get it. I am sure that the redo will be bling X 10. I am not sure that is a good idea, but the masses have spoken. I don’t want everything controlled by a 12″ Ipad plastered into the dash like RAM. I fear that is what I coming. I like some pampering, I work out of my pickup but I dont want a RAM like interior.
As to waiting for the updates in the HD’s a year after the 1500. I am with you in that. That has always been GM’s game plan. Be it model changes, MCE, or interior updates, the 1500’s get them first and a year later the HD’s get the update. I don’t get it, I just know that is their SOP.
GM wants to build it cheaper, cut quality at every turn to be sure to cut labor costs and to be sure the share holders who drive anything but a gm make money….. upgrade the interior….. no, the board of directors need to skin off $6mil to cover the flights and travel expenses for the vehicles they can’t sell for the product they let fall ten years behind Ford and RAM… Bad companys die, maybe next bailout the tax payers say no, they did it to themselves…… again
shane Kaiser, I do for sure agree looks are subjective. I have always driven a Silverado, but I got a Denali HD Duramax in 2017, and this 2020 Denali HD Duramax to replace it. It is my 4th Duramax first two had over 140,000 miles, the 2017, 12000 miles and this one 1200 miles so far.
Like I said, this 2020 is BY FAR the best of them all, the 2007 LBZ however was a great truck and I preferred it over the 2017.
However I did like the dash look in the 2017 far more than this 2020.
Again I have said before here, the location of the switches, moved back to where they were in the 2007 is great, light switches, cargo light, break control, engine brake, PLUS rear A/C vents, and the tailgate is just great !!!
I also DO NOT want the RAM screen or the controls all on the screen !!!!!!!
I would however like a 10 ” at least so when the screen splits with the cameras it is better, and the NAV is better !!
So if the 2020 looked close to the 2017 DASH with a 10 ” screen Great.
But with GM this worries me, GM is great at throwing away what works, starting over, and makes it worse NOT better !!
So I am worried the upgrade will be just bling $hit.
But the leather quality was a concern of mine as my GM seats have been shot at times.
So I priced a AT4 and Denali both exact price other than 1000,00 for seats in Denali, so there is NOT a lot of extra money.
With the same options same price to a T but you can not get the better leather in the AT4, I tried.
But for me it will not matter, as I buy a new one only about every 10 years ( other than that 2017 mistake ) so this will change in 10 years if GM is even a company then.
But just my opinion
And good to talk .
Does the 2021 HD get adaptive cruise control(acc)? I am waiting to buy one because of no acc. Once you own a vehicle with acc you don’t want to buy one without it.
i have a chevy truck and a chevy suv in my garage. i have allways been achevy man! ford and dodge trucks are out selling chevy not because of reliablity or power its because of styling! the gmc is much more pleasing to the eye then the silverados.the silverado hd looks like it ran headlong into the ugly tree!
Will everybody quit bitching. Back in the day(way back) we had push button start. You pushed it with your right foot. Radio ,what the hell is a radio. Air conditioning what the hell is that .Power steering what the hell is that. Power windows on and on. Could, not even get white wall tires ! Didn’t make whitewalls for 16” tires. So your bitching about an interior, how damed soft are you. Just bought a 2019 GMC and it is absolutely the best Pickup on the market.
There are many women driving trucks. Where I live in a rural Ontario area, that is pretty much ALL we drive. I find the dash controls on the newer Silverado/Sierra trucks to be big, bulky and manly.Could we not sort of meet in the middle here guys??? Also I found the newer trucks to have very uncomfortable seats, and the trucks were rough riding. In fact just test driving it bothered my back & have me a headache. I spend a lot of time in my trucks, they have to be comfortable. That is the main reason I ended up buying an older model, when I was able to find one that had been babied & had all the bells/whistles I was looking for. The leather seats are like my lazyboy, the ride is delightful, & the dash is a little more refined. Just sayin’. I think GM is forgetting the ladies out there. I know women who have switched from GM because they didn’t like the interior.
