Cadillac XT6 Headed To Japan For 2020 Calendar Year

With the Cadillac XT6 already offered in North America and China, Caddy is now prepping the all-new crossover for an introduction to the Japanese market. The XT6 will arrive in Japan for the 2020 calendar year, as outlined in a recent report from our sister publication, Cadillac Society.

The luxury three-row crossover will be available in Japan by January 1st, 2020, across the Japanese Cadillac dealer network. Slotting in as a “midsize-plus” offering in terms of sizing, Japanese buyers will get the Cadillac XT6 with a six-seater cabin layout, making it the only model in the market to offer a 2+2+2 seating configuration.

Only one trim level will be offered. The trim will be called the “Platinum,” and will roughly correspond with the Premium Luxury trim level sold here in the U.S.

Interestingly, offering a unique, Japanese-specific trim level is a strategy Cadillac employed with the refreshed Cadillac CT6 as well.

The luxury automaker points out that the XT6 offers the most interior space in its class for the Japanese market. The unique 2+2+2 seating configuration also enables easy access to third-row seats.

Under the hood, Japanese-spec Cadillac XT6 will offer the same naturally aspirated 3.6L LGX V6 engine as it does in the U.S. market. Output will once again be rated at 310 horsepower and 271 pound-feet of torque. The GM nine-speed automatic transmission will handle cog swaps.

Pricing in Japan will be set at 8,700,000 yen, or $79,475 at current exchange rates (12/29/2019).

The Japanese-spec Cadillac XT6 will be imported directly from the United States, and like the rest of the Cadillac lineup, will only be offered in left-hand-drive.

What’s more, the new model will arrive in Japan alongside a special edition model variant dubbed the Night Cruise Edition, which will come with Metallic Satin Steel paint matched with Jet Black upholstery. What’s more, the special edition will come with GM Night Vision technology that can identify pedestrians and large animals on a dark road. Production of the Japanese-spec Cadillac XT6 Night Cruise Edition will be limited to 30 units and will be priced at 9,100,000, or $83,129 at current exchange rates (12/26/2019).

  2. Weird. I had heard that the Japanese market XT6 was going to be a 9 seater.

  3. These may end up selling better than the XT5 for those that wanted that 3rd row . Had a chance to drive one as a rental while my XT5 was in for warranty work and it’s a nice driving car .

  5. Yep,

Just another average GM blah mid-sized SUV.

Well maybe Japan will help GM recoup some costs of development.

But again, GM didn’t spend to much to develop, the same thing they do on every other average GM blah 3.6 v6 FWD mid-sized SUV.

    In my opinion.

  6. What are the hoops that GM will have to go thru to export this auto into Japan. Have Japan halted all the charges that it add on to imported autos.
