As General Motors’ most popular brand in China, Buick is leading the automaker’s ambitious new SUV offensive in the Asian country. At the recent 2019 Guangzhou Auto Show, the three-shield brand presented the largest and coolest SUV portfolio in its history, which included the all-new Chinese-market Enclave and the refreshed Envision.
The new midsize-plus Enclave (considered a large vehicle in China) and the updated Envision joined the all-new Encore and Encore GX that were presented at the beginning of the year, building a solid range of Buick utility vehicles that covers the main market segments for the first time. In addition, since all these models debuted in the last eight months, it also constitutes and freshest portfolio that GM offers in the Chinese market today.
“Buick’s growing portfolio in China now covers the small, compact and midsize to large SUV segments,” said executive director of Buick for SAIC-GM, Molly Peck, in a statement. “With the arrival of the Enclave Avenir, we have also taken our SUV family to an even more premium level to keep up with the fast-changing market,” she added.
Buick’s SUV range in China is made up of four models, which are specifically designed for this specific market. The portfolio starts with the second-generation Buick Encore based on the GM GEM platform, which offers an attractive combination of design and value. It’s followed by the new, larger and more refined Encore GX, whose objective is to attract customers who are stepping up from the first-generation Encore.
Next up, the refreshed Envision remains Buick’s fundamental utility vehicle by competing on the largest segment in the Chinese market. Meanwhile, the new Enclave is positioned at the top of the model range and is the brand’s first seven-seat SUV manufactured in China. The Enclave Avenir variant is one of Buick’s most technologically advanced vehicles and features a higher level of luxury for the most demanding customers.
All Buick SUV buyers in China receive 100 free gigabytes of OnStar 4G LTE service every year as well as the new eight-year, 160,000-km SAIC-GM warranty coverage for the vehicles’ main components- including the engine and transmission. In fact, the warranty is transferable from one customer to another, which ensures a high residual value.
More Growth In 2020
The utility vehicle portfolio is about to grow even further next year with the upcoming Buick Enspire. This new model, which shares its GM E2U platform with the Cadillac XT4, will be positioned between the Envision and the Enclave as a refined SUV with enhanced dynamic qualities. The Enspire is expected to be sold in both China and North America.

any guesses when the Enspire will be unveiled?
This all looks very good.
Not even sure why but their Enclave looks really interesting to me. In a good way too. Perhaps it’s because unique and that’s something hard to come by without being polarizing. Especially in the extremly crowded, growing and popular crossover segment. The split headlight treatment doesn’t look done wrong here as it often does on other vehicles.
Which Model is that Orange one?
Does anyone know?
That’s the China-only Encore based off of GM’s GEM (Global Emerging Markets) platform.
GEM? Another article on GM Authority said, it is on the VSS-F platform (or vehicle set).
Aside from the GX, are we going to see any of these in the US?
