Competitive Sales Comparison

The LaCrosse’s Q3 2019 sales performance leaves the large premium sedan in last place in its competitive set, behind the Lexus ES and Lincoln MKZ (see Lincoln MKZ sales). In addition, Buick LaCrosse sales fell much faster than the segment average during the quarter, enabling both the ES and MKZ to further their sales volume lead.

The GM Authority Take

The LaCrosse has been discontinued, and the negative sales performance clearly shows that sad state of events for what was a solid product that should have enjoyed significantly greater levels of commercial success.

Going forward, we expect Buick LaCrosse sales to continue dwindling until stock runs out. It’s truly a shame given that the updated (and rather hot) 2020 Buick LaCrosse refresh will not make its way to North America, as it will be a China-only affair.

It’s worth mentioning that Lexus is defying all odds and market trends in this segment, having managed to boost sales of the ES sedan, which was all-new for the 2019 model year.
