Back in November, we caught up with the Chevrolet Silverado HD Z71 Sport Concept at its debut during the 2019 SEMA Show in Las Vegas. Although we got a nice, long eyeful of the concept pickup in Vegas, the view was a bit obscured by the massive Napier Horizon Rooftop Tent perched above the bed. Luckily, we now have a chance to take a better look at this exciting heavy-duty machine.
The opportunity comes to us courtesy of the truck’s appearance outside the Little Caesars Arena during the debut of the 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe and 2021 Chevrolet Suburban. Indeed, the Chevrolet Silverado HD Z71 Sport Concept looks good, rocking a black-and-red exterior that plays well with the Silverado’s latest styling themes. Up front, the front fascia maintains the look introduced with the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD, and comes finished with a matte black grille insert and glossy Chevrolet grille bar.
The black frontend continues into the flanks thanks to a new graphics package added to the fenders and doors. The graphics up the truck’s aggression levels, and come complete with a Chevy Bowtie just ahead of the front wheels. As we covered previously, the Chevrolet Silverado Z71 Sport Concept’s graphics will be offered as an accessory via the Chevrolet Accessories catalogue.
The profile view also shows off big, black wheels and knobby all-terrain tires. Black step-ups and black trim also offset the truck’s red paint.
Out back, the massive tent that was propped up at SEMA is thankfully gone, giving us a clearer picture of the Chevrolet Silverado Concept’s rear end. However, the Putco VentureTEC bed rack is still in place, and should provide an excellent location to mount additional cargo when heading out onto the rough stuff.
As we covered previously, the Chevrolet Silverado HD Z71 Sport Concept previews a full-fledged production version slated to roll out for the 2021 model year. While definitely offering up strong off-roader cues, the Z71 Sport Concept unfortunately falls short of a heavy-duty Silverado Trail Boss model. That said, this thing will still surely entice more than a few buyers with its impressive looks and capability.
