You Can Now Buy The LSX-LC Cylinder Head From The COPO Camaro

The modern COPO Camaro drag car, first introduced for the 2012 model year, has always been a purpose-built race car that cannot be registered for the road. That’s a bit of a shame, as we’re sure there are plenty of classic COPO Camaro fans that would love a factory version of the car that they could drive to and from work, or to a car meet, for example.

However, Chevrolet is now giving fans a way to have a small piece of the COPO Camaro on their cars, so long as they drive a car with one of its LSx Small Block V8 designs. The automaker is making the LSX-SC cylinder head, which is standard on the supercharged 350 cubic-inch COPO V8 engine, available for separate purchase through the Chevrolet Performance catalog. Like other genuine LSX cylinder heads, the LSX-LC cylinder head is made of T356 aluminum, but is produced with a low-pressure casting process that improves the density of the metal. Chevy says the head is also treated to “Hot Isostatic Pressing,” commonly known as “HIPing,” to further optimize the aluminum alloy’s density.

These processes enhance strength and cylinder sealing for supercharged and turbocharged engines, making it the ideal head for your forced-induction LSx engine build.

2014-2018 COPO 350 crate engine

Of course, if you have the cash, you can always buy a full, supercharged 350 COPO V8 crate engine. The automaker previously made the 580-horsepower COPO motor available for purchase through the Chevrolet Performance catalog, though the LSX-LC cylinder head is all-new, so buying a 2020 COPO Camaro, or buying the head separately, are the only ways to get this upgrade for the time being. If you’re wondering, the 2014-2018 supercharged COPO motor costs $36,401, as per the Chevrolet Performance website.
