Upcoming Chevrolet Onix RS Leaked In Brazil

Some General Motors employees in Brazil leaked pictures of the Chevrolet Onix RS, an all-new sporty variant of the brand’s successful compact car, which is scheduled to launch soon in South America. The workers published snapshots of the upcoming Onix RS on social media, seen completely uncovered in the parking lot of the GM Gravataí assembly plant.

The Chevrolet Onix RS, which rides on the GM GEM platform for global developing markets, is the most aggressively styled variant of the second-generation model, which will only be offered in five-door hatchback configuration. Compared to the run-of-the-mill Onix, the RS stands out with an aerodynamic body kit and an exclusive interior finish, but won’t include any mechanical upgrades.

The front end of this new Chevrolet Onix variant receives a specific front grille with a mesh-like interior pattern and a glossy back finish, giving it a sportier edge. In addition, The Onix RS includes dark headlight clusters and more prominent lower bumper moldings.

At the rear, the large hatch-mounted spoiler and the bumper diffuser – which are exclusive to the RS – are particularly striking. The sporty exterior appearance of the Chevrolet Onix RS is complemented by lower-body moldings, black alloy wheels and black Bow Tie logos.

The picture of the Onix RS’s cockpit reveals a completely black color scheme on the dashboard and door panels, along with red bezels around the air vents to add some contrast. The seats and the steering wheel are similarly spruced up with red contrast stitching.

The upcoming Chevrolet Onix RS is expected to be equipped with a turbocharged, 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine and a six-speed manual transmission. As is the case in the regular Onix, this powertrain produces 116 horsepower and 118 pound-feet of torque.

It seems as though GM is ready to launch the Chevrolet Onix RS in the Brazilian market, which should occur within the next few weeks. The five-door hatchback being the only Onix body style to receive the new trim level, and since it’s only manufactured in Brazil, it’s highly unlikely that the new RS version will be marketed outside of South America.

As we previously announced, GM has announced the Chevrolet Onix sedan for the Mexican market in addition to launching the Onix in the Middle East. Meanwhile, the brand offers an equally sporty Chevrolet Onix Redline in China.

    1. Had the chance to drive a chevy Cruze, a late model rental car , had the 153 h hp 1.4 di turbo and a 6spd auto, drove well and had plenty of power, rode nice and handled well.couldn’t really complain. Seemed to be well constructed also.

Good for you, guess you have never driven a car of quality.

You did say well constructed ? LOL………

  2. Just little bit outdated GM product. Opel is gone and Chevy starts to make this ugly generic cars from China design school (with a lot of cheap black plastic inside and outside). Sedan looks much better than this hatchback. Old Chevy Sonic looks much better than this generic something.

    1. The plastic is as good or better than your Subaru.

    2. I hate small sedans, their trunks are useless. This car the onix looks sharp, bring it over specially now that opel is owned by Peugeot and eventually their will be all new platforms jointly engineered. This car would do nice with the new L3T 1.e5 turbo three and a ct or nine spd auto. Could make a SS with the nee gm 2.oL tuobo.

  4. Not bad, far better than Sonic.
GEM is a handy platform. New Buick Encore for China should be sold globally as a Chevy and because it is coupe-like and low to the ground it could double as a hatch.
Chevy has taken number one in Brazil with Chinese cars so expect this to continue.

    1. I’d said in an earlier form that you’d never see GM fwd compacts in the US again because GEM is bringing more profit from other nations than what a compact will do here with less regulations. My only hope is Spark and Sonic can continue in the US.

      1. No, compacts will still come to America. Buick will always do a premium “Excelle” like Verano which will make small cars possible.
GEM is based on Gamma. I wonder how hard it would be to Federalize the platform? I can see GM, during a recession, doing just this seeing as it will take many years for them to get on the 4 VSS kits.

        1. Any evidence that GEM (as a CUV or sedan) is coming to the US?, As I said no fwd GM compact is coming to America. An electric VSS-F is a small as it gets here.

    2. Steve Colmar, Chevrolet did not win the 1st position in Brazil with chinese cars. Onix and Prisma 1st generation are totally brazilian projects, while 2nd generation was a jointly developed project between GM Brasil and GM China with SAIC participation.

      1. Regardless I don’t consider Chinese-designed/sourced cars to be a bad thing & I was replying to someone who did.
GM must achieve scale somehow and the US rejects small cars. With Opel gone GM Brazil would be mad not to partner with GM China and SAIC.
China forced GM to more keenly focus on quality as it was in direct competition with VW. This culture has worked it’s way into the entire company which is a good thing.

  5. GM can live up to the RS by launching Onix and Onix Plus with the 1.2 Turbo engine.
In early 2020, Volkswagen Brazil will launch the Polo GTS and Virtus GTS, connected to the 150 hp 1.4 Turbo engine.
