Recaro Debuts New Seats Aimed At Off-Road Racers

Recaro is taking advantage of this year’s SEMA Show to debut a new line of racing seats aimed at off-road racers and the off-road racing scene.

The Recaro Cross Sportster ORV (above) and Pro Racer SPG XL ORV (below) were specifically tailored to the meet the needs of off-road vehicles and those who drive them. The Cross Sportster ORV is designed for street-legal off-road vehicles, like a custom Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 build, for example, while the Pro Racer SPG XL was designed for purpose-built off-roaders that cannot be registered for street use.

Recaro describes the Cross Sportster ORB as having a “snug, supportive seat structure” with side bolsters designed for “excellent shoulder and torso support.” Vibration damping foam helps to absorb bumps when driving on gravel or dirt trails and the flat seat cushion and lower side bolster is good for road-legal vehicles, as it means the driver/passenger can still access the cabin easily.

Meanwhile, the Pro Racer SPG XL ORV is aimed at purpose-built racers and has more aggressive side and shoulder bolstering. It has more robust, high-energy absorbing cushion foam, is designed to be used with 4-, 5- or 6-point belts and can accommodate the use of HANS systems. It is also made of “particularly robust cover materials” that are weather and abrasion resistant.

Both seats were developed using input from professional drivers, including Formula Drift and Ultra 4 truck racing champion Loren Healy, along with Formula Drift racer Vaughn Gittin Jr.

“It’s been an incredible journey being part of the development for the Recaro off-road vehicle seats,” said Healy. “After the more than two years of development and testing that went into the Cross Sportster ORV and the Pro Racer ORV, my mind is blown at how much safer and more comfortable these seats are (than seats designed with road racing in mind) for the demanding nature of off-road driving.”

Recaro says its Cross Sportster ORV and Pro Racer SPG XL ORV seats will go on sale sometime in 2020.

  1. I like the Sportier one. Hopefully the upcoming Silverado Raptor fighter will utilize that seat.
Set it apart from the Raptor.
