Following an introduction at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in Florida, the 2020 Corvette Convertible is now on the wishlist of droptop sports car fans worldwide. Not only does the new roofless Corvette C8 offer supercar performance for surprisingly little outlay, it also comes with a full range of options for styling and customization purposes, including several colors for the convertible roof and rear nacelle design elements.
That said, there’s been quite a bit of confusion regarding these various options, with some thinking the roof and nacelles are only available in black. We’re here to set the record straight.
There are actually three options for the 2020 Corvette Convertible roof and nacelles, one of which is standard, while the other two are optional. We’ve listed all three below, including their associated RPO code.
Standard – CM9 – Convertible Top, Retractable, Power-Folding Hard Top, Painted Body-Color Roof
Optional – D84 – Convertible Top, Carbon Flash-Painted Nacelles And Roof
- Note that this option is not available with the Black exterior color (RPO code GBA).
Optional – D86 – Convertible Top, Carbon Flash-Painted Nacelles And Body-Color Roof
- Note that this option is not available with the Black exterior color (RPO code GBA).
For reference, the new eighth-generation 2020 Corvette Convertible features the same naturally aspirated 6.2L LT2 V8 engine as the Coupe, with output rated at a Coupe-matching 495 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque when equipped with the optional performance exhaust system. Output is routed exclusively to the rear wheels through the same eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
As for the roof itself, it’s a new two-piece foldable hardtop, which breaks from tradition as the first hardtop convertible Corvette ever offered from the factory. Check out a video of the top opening and closing here.

What are prices for the three choices on nacelles?
Yikes! Where is the engine? Is this like a magic trick? Very cool hardtop convertible. I love it but I can’t figure out where they have the 6.2 litre source of go.
Could you figure out where it was on the C7?
Yeah smart guy. Could you?
How could you if It’s under a cover… you know much like on the C8 convertible.
Ah, sure, whatever that comment meant. The point is with a retractable roof does that detract from the space occupied by the midengined powerplant.
I don’t get your question Fred. They engineered the C8 convertible and coupe together.
Does the top detract from space occupied by the engine? Yes. But what does it matter? The engine Is the same and makes the same amount of power.
Okay. I was just musing on the already cramped real estate behind the driver. No problem but I wonder if a Z51 C8 convertible still does 2.8 seconds to 60 mph. Also what’s this about the C8 has less front visibility of the road?
