Ford Mustang Mach-E Debuts – Is This The Future Of The Auto Industry?

The Ford Mustang Mach-E has made its official debut, potentially sparking a major shift from traditional cars and crossovers to sporty, fully electric crossover vehicles like the new Ford offering.
From launch, the 2021 Mustang Mach-E will come standard with a 75.7-kWh battery, rear-wheel drive and a 255-horsepower electric motor, delivering a 0-60 mph time in the mid-6-second range. A 98.8-kWh Extended Range battery will be available as well, bringing range to “at least” 300 miles with rear-wheel drive. The extended-range model with RWD will also have slightly more power at 282 horses, although the 0-60 mph time will remain in the mid-6-second range.
All-wheel drive will also be available as an option. In standard-range models, AWD will bring the total system output to 255 horsepower and will lower the 0-60 mph time to the mid-5-second range. Equipped with the Extended Range battery, AWD models will make 332 horsepower and accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in the mid-5-second range. Standard-battery models with AWD will have a range of around 210 miles, while extended-range models with AWD will be able to travel about 270 miles on a single charge.
Then there’s the two performance versions. The AWD Mustang Mach-E GT is “targeting” a 0-60 mph time of under four seconds, Ford says, and will be able to travel about 235 miles with the 98.8-kWh battery fully charged. Meanwhile, the Mach-E GT Performance Edition will hustle from 0 to 60 mph in around 3.5 seconds and should have a similar amount of range. Both models will produce around 459 horsepower and 612 pound-feet of torque.
As for charging, Ford says the Mach-E will be offered with a ‘Ford Connected Charging station’ for use in owners’ garages, which can add 32 miles of range per hour when running off a 240V outlet. Meanwhile, the included Ford mobile charger can add 22 miles of range per hour on a 240V outlet. The vehicle has a peak charging rate of 150 kW and can add around 47 miles of range in 10 minutes when plugged into a DC fast charging station. That means a standard-range Mach-E will be able to charge its battery from 10 to 80 percent in around 38 minutes using a DC fast charger.
Ford appears to have drawn inspiration from Tesla and other electric vehicles when designing the interior, with digital screens taking up a significant amount of cabin real estate. The Mach-E debuts the next-generation SYNC in-car entertainment system, which Ford says will ditch “complicated menus” and make it easier to navigate with responsive swipe and pinch controls. Future Ford vehicles with the next-gen SYNC system will also be available with the 15.5-inch, tablet-style in-car display screen that debuts in the Mach-E. This latest version of SYNC enables over-the-air updates as well.
The Mach-E has seating for five, along with a front trunk and sizable rear trunk. With the rear seats down, the vehicle has 59.6 cubic feet of storage space – enough for “luggage, camping gear or whatever else you may want to move around,” Ford says.
The Mustang Mach-E is available to reserve online for $500, with deliveries expected to commence in late 2020. However, only the $59,900 First Edition model and $50,600 Premium model can be reserved right now, with the $43,895 Select base model not available until spring 2021. The performance-focused Mach-E GT is expected to start at just over $60,000 when it goes on sale.
The Mach-E GT may be representative of the direction the auto industry is heading in. With regulations forcing automakers to build more electric vehicles and consumers leaving cars behind in favor of crossovers, sporty electric crossovers like this may one day represent the core of the market. General Motors is working on its own sporty electric crossover in the way of the new Cadillac EV crossover, although it will likely be positioned above the Mach-E in the marketplace due its status as a luxury vehicle.

Yeah of course, this is the best thing ever, because its not from GM of course….
If this was a Camaro electric SUV you would be crapping all over it
Its made in Mexico….again, bad for GM but totally OK for every car other company, especially “didn’t take no bailout money ultra patriotic Ford”
Not being sold by a high end badge-totally would crapped on for not being Cadillac here…..
Totally derivative and almost desperately wanting to be a Tesla, you would totally crap all over that too……
MACH-EDSEL
That’s all I can think of
Remember when every little girl here collectively crapped their pants about the FWD Mexican Made Blazer?
But Electric GOV subsidy MustangmommymobileFOCUSWAGONINDRAGWITHAHORSEYONTHEFRONT made in Mexico by Fraud Motor Co….10000% awesome and GM sucks…..
Ok….
Yes I would buy one. Our next vehicle is moving towards an EV and we will be ready in 2 years. Competition is a good thing folks. Always was, always will be. Was it a good idea to attach the Mustang name to this EV? I think you will see GM follow suit and use there best nameplates to create a new league of Electric vehicles. I also think that we will look back and decide that Ford needs to step out of their familiar pathways and build vehicles and nameplates that cause interested reaction. This is the beginning for them. GM has more experience with Ev’s and they are most definitely looking at the Mach-E just like everyone else. GM is promising a boatload of new vehicles and with new releases like this Ford it serves to help define and shape the upcoming models. You can bet, as much as the usual nervous naysayers spout off, that this vehicle will and is sending a wave thru the industry. People have noticed it. I wish them well. Each new model from GM or Ford must be better than the last as well as visionary. Not easy but no choice. Otherwise go home. Thanks.
My opinion is !! This isn’t even a mustang !!! The only thing I like is the grill with the Mustang logo on it !!! That’s it !!! Good luck on trying to sell this model “FORD” and thease big car dealership should put there foot down and say yes we can make some electric cars but we’re not going to drop Maki g gas versions cause something’s you just don’t change !! If it’s not broken then don’t fix it !!! I wonder if they ever heard of that saying before ?!! So I give it 1 star out of 5 stars !!
