The annual SEMA Show in Las Vegas is typically a breeding ground for future design ideas and technical concepts, which makes it just the right venue to debut this – the Chevrolet E-10 Electric Truck concept. Based on a 1962 Chevrolet C-10 pickup, the E-10 is an all-electric spin on the traditional Chevy crate motor, stuffing the classic truck with oodles of electrified horsepower and torque. Of course, beyond the interesting technical tidbits, the Chevrolet E-10 is also one helluva looker.
The first thing to grab our eyeballs is that gorgeous orange paint, which covers the Chevrolet E-10 from tip to tail with a rich finish. Complementing the paint is black trim and dark finishes for the grille and tailgate, plus light-up Bow Tie badges and upgraded headlamps.
The body panels look sleek, without any superfluous design elements to muddy the truck’s aesthetic. The suspension is slammed to the ground, while big alloy wheels occupy the corners.
As for the tech, the Chevrolet E-10 comes with a new electric crate propulsion package concept, which utilizes components from the existing Chevrolet Bolt EV for electron-powered motivation. The concept combines two “eCrate” motors juiced by two 400-volt batteries, all of which feeds a SuperMatic 4L75-EÂ four-speed automatic transmission connected to the rear wheels. The battery packs are mounted in the bed, and come with combined energy capacity of 120 kWh.
The whole shebang churns out 450 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque, sending the Chevrolet E-10 from 0 to 60 mph in about five seconds, with the quarter mile completed in the high 13-second range. As we covered previously, that’s not terribly quick considering the power levels, but there’s a reason the Chevrolet E-10 is so slow – it’s really heavy, weighing in at a little over 6,000 pounds. In fact, the build required a reinforced frame to carry the extra heft.
But while some enthusiasts may deride it, the Chevrolet E-10 is still a major moment for performance lovers, offering a forward-looking concept that promises to add fun and customization to the world of EVs.
