2020 Corvette C8 vs. Corvette C7: Exterior Dimensions Comparison

A few weeks ago, we examined the new 2020 Corvette C8 in terms of available interior space, comparing Chevrolet’s latest mid-engine sports car to the previous front-engine Chevrolet Corvette C7 to see how the two matched up. Now, we’re once again comparing the C8 against the C7, this time with a focus on the two models’ exterior dimensions.

2020 Corvette C8 vs. Corvette C7: Exterior Dimensions
Dimension Corvette C7 Corvette C8 +/- Corvette C8
Wheelbase (in. / mm): 106.7 / 2710 107.2 / 2722 + 0.5 / + 12
Overall Length (in. / mm): 176.9 / 4493 182.3 / 4630 + 5.4 / + 137
Overall Width (in. / mm): 73.9 / 1877 76.1 / 1934 + 2.2 / + 57
Coupe Overall Height (in. / mm): 48.8 / 1240 48.6 / 1234 - 0.2 / – 6
Convertible Overall Height (in. / mm): 48.9 / 1242 48.6 / 1234 - 0.3 / – 8
Front Track (in. / mm): 63 / 1600 64.9 / 1648 + 1.9 / + 48
Rear Track (in. / mm): 61.7 / 1567 62.4 / 1586 + 0.7 / + 19

The big takeaway here should be obvious—the 2020 Corvette C8 is bigger than the Corvette C7. Significantly bigger, actually, and in almost every single measurement as well. The only way in which the 2020 Corvette C8 shrank compared to the Corvette C7 was in overall height, with the new mid-engine sports car dropping two-tenths of an inch compared to its predecessor.

The rest of the dimensions are up by a big margin. The wheelbase is now half an inch longer, while overall width is 2.2 inches wider. What’s more, both the front and rear track are wider, growing 1.9 inches and 0.7 inches, respectively.

However, the biggest gains can be found in overall length, where the 2020 Corvette has grown a whopping 5.4 inches compared to the preceding Corvette C7. That’s pretty massive.

At the same time, interior dimensions are down across the board, as we examined earlier. However, as we pointed out, the loss in interior dimensions aren’t as significant as we first expected. Indeed, Chevy did a good job packaging the 2020 Corvette to maximize interior room, and the expanded exterior dimensions no doubt help quite a bit in that regard as well.

  1. Impressive numbers ! Can’t wait to see what happens when race day comes around ???

    1. The up side is the track width, and the height. Not sure overall length increase is a good thing. Wheel base is up, most likely because of mid engine not a bad thing though. I am looking for quicker steering tighter cornering Corvette. Has GM accomplished those two traits?

  5. How does the base C8 compare as re. the outside dimensions against the C7 widebody?

  6. 182 in, that’s midsize car length 25 yrs ago.

  7. I was just comparing the dimensions with my C-5 Z06.
    C-5 C-8
    Length‎: ‎179.7 in (4,564 mm) 182.3 in
    Width‎: ‎73.6 in (1,869 mm) 76.1 in
    Height‎: ‎47.7 in (1,212 mm) 48.6 in
Just checking garage fit: The C-8 is closer in length to a C-5 than a C-7, but closer in width to a C-7, and closer in height to a C-7.

      2. There are two kinds of tall, those that have long legs and those that have a long torso. I have a long torso and I need to wear tall men’s shirts but only 32 in length and I’m 6’2”. My son is 6’5” and he can wear regular shirts.

        1. George S,

          Exactly!

And Brian, this isn’t a complaint, this is a fact. I can’t drive a C7 safely with my head wedged against the roof. Yet I fit very well in the 911 and especially the Panamera.

Sadly, the headroom is exactly the same on the C8 as the C7. GM needs to update their 5’9″ dummy if they want sales from taller men. The Germans have.

          1. I am not a small guy by any stretch and I fit just fine. Some people just complain to be complaining. They have to find a reason to not like or buy the car so they pick something that is ridiculous.

I am sure GM realizes that the avg man is 6 feet tall and builds cars to fit

            1. Brian,
Having my head wedged against the roof is a fact for many people and isn’t something made up. BTW, the average man isn’t 6 ft tall.

You”re so out of touch with reality, I bet you’re a full time Trumptard. Douchebag!

      1. Scott ZL1,
Lots of headroom if you’re a midget.

The Camaro is one of the very few idiotic cars that you can’t even see well out of from any angle.

For that reason, almost nobody buys one. Sales numbers don’t lie.

        1. Bert,

I’m 6ft 210 lbs not a midget, they have 6 way seat adjustment,

I have no problem once I’m in the car, just simply adjust the seat.

Race day not alot of room when wearing a helmet, however must people never have to worry about that. It’s not ROCKET SCIENCE.

          ??? have a great weekend. ???

  9. I was really hoping there would be a ghosted image superimposed to help me visualize the sizes. I guess I’ll see it in person next summer at the car shows. We all know the Corvette guys love to park next to each other, wearing their corvette hats, dad jeans, and white new balances.

  10. Clearance for going over debris on the road, speed bumps, and even getting in and out of elevated driveways has always been a problem for the modern day Corvettes. Any idea how the C8 compares to the C7? We are contemplating getting the optional body lifting feature….
