2020 Cadillac XT5 Refresh Announced For Mexican Market

The 2020 Cadillac XT5 is now available in Mexico, marking the third country to offer the refreshed midsize crossover. The latest XT5 was previously launched in the U.S. and China. Interestingly, GM launched the 2020 Cadillac XT5 in Mexico before the Canadian market.

“Cadillac XT5 arrived in Mexico as a 2017 model year and by 2020 it presents a very attractive mid-cycle refresh,” said the Marketing Manager for Cadillac in Mexico, Yammil Guaida. “This crossover is in the most important and competitive segment of the luxury industry and we are sure that our clients will be surprised with this model year.”

Customers will have both the Luxury and Sport trim levels to choose from. These two variants are part of the brand’s latest Y trim level strategy, but do not the complete model cadence, which also includes the Premium Luxury trim level.

Nevertheless, the Luxury and Sport trim levels offer significant differentiation, with the Luxury equipped with chrome accents, a new wheel design, and red taillamps. Meanwhile, the  Sport has a more aggressive appearance, a glossy black grille, and transparent (neutral density) taillamp lenses.

The interior is also a point of departure for these two trims, and is distinguished by things like materials and color combos. For example, the 2020 Cadillac XT5 Luxury gets wood inserts, plus a Maple Sugar and Jet Black interior finish. Meanwhile, the Sport gets carbon fiber inserts and two new color combos.

The Mexican-spec Sport trim level is also equipped a twin-clutch all-wheel drive system and Adaptive Ride Control suspension, both of which are absent in the Luxury trim level.

Mexican-spec 2020 Cadillac XT5 models are only offered with the naturally aspirated 3.6L V6 LGX engine. Output is rated at 310 horsepower and 271 pound-feet of torque, with the GM nine-speed automatic transmission and Electronic Precision Shift technology handling cog swaps. Meanwhile, U.S.-spec XT5 models are offered with the turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder LSY as standard, while the LGX powerplant is an available option.

The first 2020 Cadillac XT5 units went on sale in Mexico for the second half of October 2019. Pricing breaks down as following:

  • Cadillac XT5 Luxury: Mex$893,400 pesos (US$46,329 at current exchange rates, 11/18/2019)
  • Cadillac XT5 Sport: Mex$1,038,00 pesos (US$53,827 at current exchange rates, 11/18/2019)

  1. The 2020 Cadillac XT5 is still by any other name a Cimarron because despite all of the chatter that Cadillac has talked about there’s nothing much to distinguish Cadillac’s XT5 from the 2020 Chevrolet Blazer; what Cadillac’s XT5 needs is more horsepower and LGW 3.0L DOHC-4v V6 Twin Turbo could have fixed this.
