We’re just a few hours away from the debut of the 2020 Corvette Convertible, scheduled to take place later this afternoon at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in Florida. While GM Authority will be on the scene to provide live coverage, Chevrolet won’t be live streaming the big reveal like it did with the C8 coupe.
For those that may be unaware, the 2020 Corvette Coupe was revealed in Tustin, California, on July 18th. The event took place in an enormous hangar located on the grounds of an old Marine Corps air station. Chevy ended up providing livestream footage of the event for those that couldn’t make it there in person.
Unfortunately, no such luck with the debut for the 2020 Corvette Convertible. Nevertheless, we’ll be there to bring you all the latest as it happens, so stay tuned.
The decision to reveal the new mid-engine drop-top at the Kennedy Space Center makes a lot of sense. The Corvette nameplate has a long history of tie-ins with the U.S. space program, with numerous astronauts driving the sports car throughout history, including those from the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo programs. The reveal location for the new 2020 Corvette Convertible is certainly a hat tip to that history, complementing the theme established at the reveal for the C8 Coupe when former astronauts Mae Jemison and Scott Kelly both took the stage to help introduce the fresh performance machine.
As for the 2020 Corvette Convertible, we expect it to offer identical mechanical specs compared to the coupe model, including the same naturally aspirated 6.2L LT2 V8 engine and M1L eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. However, to accommodate the foldable hardtop roof, the convertible will also feature a reshaped rear end, possibly with new cooling vents. What’s more, the 2020 Corvette Convertible will be slightly heavier than the coupe, as confirmed in a leaked GM document.
Final touches include a switch in the cabin to lower and close the top, as well as the GM Rear Camera Mirror to help with rear visibility.
While Chevy will not livestream the 2020 Corvette Convertible reveal, we’ll post updates as soon as we get them, so subscribe to GM Authority for more mid-engine Corvette news, Corvette C8 news, Corvette news, Chevrolet news and 24/7 GM news coverage.
