GM Trucks Recalled Over Incorrectly Installed Tonneau Covers

GM has issued a recall for nearly 7,200 Advantage Tri-fold soft tonneau covers, which were sold as accessory equipment for 2019 through 2020 model-year Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 pickup trucks. Details on this latest GM trucks recall are relatively light at this time, but the issue stems from incorrect installation as a result of instructions that “may be difficult to follow.”

The defect: Owners may have incorrectly installed the Advantage Tri-fold soft tonneau cover on their Silverado or Sierra, and as a result, the cover may detach from these GM trucks.

The hazards: The cover may detach from the vehicle and damage other vehicles or cause road hazards, increasing the risk of a crash.

Affected components: Advantage Tri-fold soft tonneau covers.

Affected vehicles: Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 GM trucks sold between the 2019 and 2020 model year.

Number of affected vehicles: 7,173.

The fix: Owners of these affected GM trucks will be provided with a tether kit to secure the tonneau cover to the pickup truck bed, as well as clearer installation instructions and additional labeling.

Owners should: GM has yet to provide a notification schedule on this recall. However, to acquire additional information, concerned Chevrolet Silverado 1500 owners can call 1-800-630-2438, while GMC Sierra 1500 owners can call 1-800-462-8782.

    1. So true as there are persons in this world that have no business touching (or buying/owning) tools and attempting to put anything together!

Not with the number of liability lawyers today!

      1. Maybe the product was made in China. And the instructions were translated from Chinese to American English. And then an American lawyer tried to install it. And ended up installing it backwards.

        2. It is a Lund item made for GM in the USA.

GM just does their own instructions and they are not always very good at it on the dealer installed parts.
