The GM Authority Take
Overall, GM’s numbers represent a healthy resurgence in the highly lucrative GM truck sales space. While the Ram pickup managed to secure a second-place finish in terms of sales ahead of the Silverado and Sierra, the cumulative figures for these two GM models are nothing short of impressive, blitzing past the Ram and even the traditional segment sales leader, the Ford F-Series.
Of course, we must note a few caveats. For starters, the F-Series numbers only include the F- 150, F-250, F-350, and F-450, but not the F-650 and F-750 Medium Duty vehicles, which accumulated 4,245 sales on their own.
However, when breaking out the Chevrolet Silverado sales numbers, we find that Silverado Medium Duty sales (4500HD, 5500HD, 6500HD) units totaled 1,629 units. Subtracted from the total 155,482 sales numbers, that leaves us with 153,853 units, which added to the Sierra’s sales numbers of 66,198 units gives us 220,051 units total – still nearly 6,000 units ahead of the Ford F-Series.
Meanwhile, the Ram secured its second-place finish via significant discounts. In fact, a Motrolix analysis of FCA’s incentives on the Ram pickup during the third quarter revealed that every Ram pickup model had a discount on it. By comparison, the Silverado and Sierra had significantly more limited discounts during the quarter. See a running list of Silverado incentives for the entire 2019 calendar year here.
All told, GM truck sales were impressive in Q3 of this year. Here’s to hoping GM manages to continue that momentum into Q4, although the ongoing UAW strike might negatively impact that.

GM is killing it here !!!!
Great job !!!
Love it !!
Your Ford sales info is incorrect, actual number is 240,387 pickups in 3rd quarter..best performance in 14 years
Steve, the info in the article is actually correct.
The figure you’re citing (240,387 Ford pickups) includes the Ranger, but our report focuses strictly on full-size trucks – F-Series, Silverado, Sierra, Ram, Tundra, Titan. If we were to use your figure, we would also have to add in the Colorado, Canyon, Tacoma, Gladiator, Frontier. So no, this is an apples-to-apples comparison. As accurate and as direct as it gets.
@Alex Luft I swear I always love it, everytime you come in to correct people with actual knowledge!
Alex are you doing GM authority every day–I’ve been missed out on a number of them in the last weeks.
At the end of day all that really matters is profit per vehicle and not overproducing a vehicle. Ford and Fiat seem to be a in race to the bottom for bragging rights on who sells more. Considering both companies have negative returns this year they should rethink that approach. As a consumer I could give a two s#$ts over truck of the year or how many units they push out the door. To me it seems like a death wish to be the largest auto maker on the planet. I use to be a die hard Toyota fan but now everything they make is dulled down to appease the masses. After they dropped a BMW engine into the iconic Supra they are officially dead to me.
GM combined is killing FCA. Overall the market is doing well compared to all the so called economist that are projecting doom and gloom. doesn’t look like it.
@joe Exactly, and people get mad when you add the sales of the Sierra and Silverado together against the Ford or Ram. But you got to think Gm is one company with two trucks, like Ford and FCA is one company as well, but with one truck. But I bet you the net worth of Gm’s company that if any of the other competitors had two trucks people would say the same thing.
