Area 27 Motorsports Park in Oliver, British Columbia, has experienced a good degree of success with its Academy 27 Camaro Driving Academy and recently added three extra class dates to its calendar to close out the 2019 racing season.
Academy 27, the result of a partnership between General Motors and Area 27, is a 2.5-day classroom and on-track lapping course with an ASN FIA-approved curriculum. Attendees have the option of bringing their own vehicle for the lapping sessions, or renting one of the track’s own 2019 Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE course cars. For 2020, however, the school will switch exclusively to the Camaros, making these final courses in October 2019 the last opportunity for driving enthusiasts to bring their own vehicles out to the driving school.
Both the 2019 and 2020 classes will include a half-day classroom session along with two full days of on-track instruction. Area 27 instructors will teach students important performance driving techniques, including racing lines, cornering phases, weight transfer and more. The course also includes one-on-one instruction, ensuring all students receive thorough lessons on how to drive the Camaro SS 1LE (or their own car) fast and in a safe manner.
Area 27, which was completed in the summer of 2016, is comprised of a 16-turn road course that was designed in part by 1997 Formula 1 world champion Jacques Villeneuve. The track is designed to take advantage of the natural elevation change of the mountainous Okanagan region in the scenic Canadian province and features both challenging corner complexes and long straightaways.
The base course rate for the Academy 27 Camaro Driving Academy is $3,995 CAD, which includes the two-day Camaro 1LE rental and fuel. If you want to bring your own car (again, that opportunity ends at the conclusion of the 2019 season) the rate is $2,795 CAD. This should go without saying, but attendees will need to have prior experience with a manual transmission in order to participate in the academy.
“Whether you have yet to set tires on a track or want to better your performance driving skills, our ASN-approved curriculum is designed to give you the tools to master every corner,” Area 27’s website says. “During these sessions, the only competition you have is you. Area 27 is setting a new standard for private track education, we provide motorsport enthusiasts with performance driving skills on a world-class circuit.”
If you want to learn how to lap a Camaro SS 1LE from seasoned professionals on a hilly, scenic road course, you can head on over to Area 27’s website for more information on the Camaro Driving Academy.
