2020 Corvette C8 Posts 2.8-Second 0-To-60 MPH Time In Real-World Testing

The 2020 Corvette C8 has a lot to prove. With an all-new mid-engine platform and some serious performance claims behind it, it’s time to put up or shut up for the eighth-generation Chevy icon. With that in mind, we’re happy to report that initial testing is looking good. Very good, actually.

Road & Track recently posted that it managed to run the new 2020 Corvette to 60 mph in a mere 2.8 seconds, fulfilling the sub-three-second promise made during the new Vette’s debut. As the publication points out, that’s an enormous improvement compared to the C7’s 3.9-second run to 60 mph, and a true testament to the performance potential of the new mid-engine platform.

“That jaw-dropping result comes from the ultrashort gear ratios that Chevrolet chose for the Z51-package C8 to take advantage of the additional grip available on the mid-engine car’s rear tires,” writes Road & Track’s Jason Cammisa. “At full tilt, the shift from first to second occurs at just over 30 mph. Second maxes at 55 mph. The manual-transmission C7, for comparison, did 51 mph in first.”

The 2020 Corvette’s naturally aspirated 6.2L LT2 V8 is also praised for its pleasing exhaust noise and sharp response. To note, the LT2 produces 495 horsepower at 6,450 rpm and 470 pound-feet of torque at 5,150 rpm when equipped with the optional performance exhaust system.

To help put that 2.8-second 0-to-60 mph sprint into context, we’ve listed below the 0-to-60 mph times for a number of other modern sports cars. Note that the vehicles listed are not necessarily considered direct rivals to the 2020 Corvette, but rather are listed merely for comparison purposes.

    1. Why would anyone drive a (purpose built HI-Performance car created for blistering lap times around a racetrack) in the rain on bad roads with potholes?

Would anyone take it on a ski trip, chains required?

Guess you could stop by the chassis shop before heading up the mountain!

    1. The car inside feels like no Corvette ever. Much better materials and for the price great materials.

The only thing that got me was the passenger seat feels a little tub like with the console wall. But the drivers side is fine where it counts.

  4. What should have been posted was the performance times of sport cars in the 85k price range. The cost of a loaded Z51.

  7. i saw an R8 this weekend at my local dealership. Nice to know my future C8 can smoke it for 1/4 the price. It was even nicer to know that I can now actually afford a supercar!
