2020 Cadillac CT5 Sport Exterior 001

About Cadillac CT5

The CT5 is a new luxury sedan from GM's Cadillac brand. The model will replace both the ATS and CTS Sedans in the future Cadillac product portfolio. The vehicle will be larger than the ATS yet slightly smaller than the CTS, and positioned as a D-segment offering that's slightly larger than the BMW 3/4 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class segment stalwarts.

The traditional four-door sedan body styles for the CT5 is a shoe-in. A two-door coupe is possible. A convertible is less of a possibility, and a wagon is out of the question thanks to consumers' ongoing love affair with crossovers.

2020 Cadillac CT5 Sport Exterior 002

The CT5 rides on an updated version of the GM Alpha platform dubbed internally as Alpha 2. It will be powered by the following engines:

  • New turbo-charged 2.0L LSY I-4 TriPower as the base engine making around 250 horsepower
  • Twin-turbocharged 3.0L LGW V-6 making over 400 horsepower

An ultra-high-performance CT5-V model is expected, but it's currently unknown which engine it will use. Two possibilities include the twin-turbo 4.2L LTA V8 or the supercharged 6.2L LT4 V8.

All engines will be mated to the new GM 10-speed automatic transmission.

2020 Cadillac CT5 Premium Luxury Exterior 003

The Cadillac CT5 will launch in North America in the third or fourth quarter of the 2019 calendar year as a 2020 model year. A China launch is expected to take place in the second or third quarter of 2019.

The CT5 will be built at the following plants:

  1. LOVE THE GREEN!!

  2. Unfortunately, there is no color that would make this car look exciting.

    1. Sad but true. From what I’ve seen, CTS was a much better design.

      Reply
      1. Agreed, the 2014 to 2019 is a far superior design, in my opinion.

        Reply
    2. It does fail to impress in the visuals.

    3. It’s really unfortunate. Direct views from front/rear/side look OK, even aggressive … but any angled view looks like Altima/Accord/Kia-derivative.

I give it a 6 out of 10, with extra points for the new colors.

    4. Yeah yeah. We get it. You’ve been hating on the CT5 from the moment it was announced. But the real question is, have you actually seen one in person? You haven’t when it first came out, and something tells me you still haven’t. So what does that make your comment, then?

      1. Saw it at the New York Auto Show. It’s no better seen up close.

  3. This is Mary Barra’s favorite design – frumpy and uninspiring. Cadillac used to set the standard in design – this is a warmed over Honda and Alitma had a baby.

    1. Something about Mary and her hair gel….

  4. Guys,

The C8 was a home run!

The C8.R was a Grand Salami.

So far the CT5 is a ? (Intentional Walk)

Time to put the Z06 flat plane crank in here.

    Cheers,
    Sean

  5. From the A pillar back it looks a little odd—but I’ll wait until I see it in person for a final judgement—doesn’t look as good as my Hot Lava 2008 CTS–which was Motor Trend Car of the year in 2008.

  6. No exterior color will help sell this car.

  7. Has production started yet? Its almost November and no word on when they will arrive in dealerships.

  8. According to the Cadillac website, Luxury and Premium Luxury get all colors except Velocity Red. Sport gets Velocity Red but loses Garnet Red and Dark Moon. The V gets Velocity Red but loses the same two colors that are not available on the Sport, plus it loses Crystal White.

As for interior colors, Luxury only offers Jet Black and Sahara Beige, and only in leatherette. Premium Luxury adds Maple Sugar and Sedona Sauvage to those two colors, and all four are leather. Both the Sport and the V offer Jet Black in either leatherette or leather, plus Sedona Sauvage and Whisper Beige in leather.

The trim layout indicates that the 3.0TT is available on the Premium Luxury, but not the Sport.

    Reply
    1. The 3.0TT Sport is the CT5-V Sport.

      Reply
      1. And that 3.0TT in the CT5-V Sport is the same engine in the Prem Lux 3.0TT? That’s what the order guide indicates but contrary to GM press releases.

  9. how about a sporty 2 door coupe

    Reply
  10. What about the kinda orange color in the top photo, is that offered?

    Reply
    1. It’s coming later on in the 2020 model year as a special edition color.
