The GM Authority Take

GMC Mexico sales had a great performance in July, with a growth of 35 percent compared to July 2018. In fact, GMC was the only General Motors brand that saw sales increase in Mexico during July. Sales in the first seven months of 2019 were also higher than those recorded during the same period last year.

The uptick in GMC sales is due to the fact that three of the four models offered in the Mexican market saw increases in sales on a year-over-year basis. Particularly, the performance is highlighted by the 2019 Sierra 1500, which doubled deliveries in July with a large increase of 129.13 percent. In fact, the latest-generation Sierra has registered increases in six of the first seven months of 2019, achieving three-digit growth in March, April and July.

The Acadia is the only GMC model that saw sales decrease in Mexico, both during July and year-to-date. Sales of the midsize crossover have fallen steadily during the last six consecutive months in the Latin American country, with January being the only month of the year to post positive Acadia sales. We expect the refreshed 2020 GMC Acadia to arrive in Mexico before the end of the year, with the updated vehicle expected to reverse the negative trend.
