GM Releases Navigation Upgrade Kit For 2019, 2020 Camaro

General Motors has released a navigation upgrade kit for the refreshed sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro, GM Authority has exclusively discovered. That means that owners of a 2019 or 2020 model-year Camaro without embedded navigation but with the proper head unit who wish to have built-in nav can do so with relative ease, although there’s somewhat of a small catch.

The Part

Assigned RPO Code S54 and GM part number 84250952, the navigation upgrade kit – otherwise known as the nav card kit – comes in the form of an SD card that owners simply insert into the SD card slot of their Chevrolet Camaro. According to one Chevrolet dealer’s service center, there is no programming required, meaning that it’s a simple plug-and-play situation. Meanwhile, another dealer has told us that a software update (reflash) is required.

According to our dealer sources, the part just became available over the last two weeks and can now be ordered.

Availability

The availability is where things can get a bit tricky. That’s because the Camaro navigation upgrade kit is only available for vehicles with the 8-inch Chevrolet Infotainment 3 Plus System. In other words, the nav card kit is not compatible with base Camaro models equipped with the 7-inch infotainment system.

Hence, the nav upgrade kit is only available on the 1LT, 2LT, LT1, and 1SS trim levels starting with the 2019 and 2020 Camaro models. Lower end models (such as the LS) have the basic 7-inch system that’s not compatible with this upgrade, while up-level models (like the 3LT, 2SS, and ZL1) already have the system with built-in navigation.

2019-2020 Camaro Infotainment Systems
System RPO Code System Screen Features Nav Upgrade Kit Compatible?
IOR Chevrolet Infotainment 3 7-inch color AM/FM radio, Bluetooth audio streaming for 2 active devices, voice command pass-through to phone, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capable. No
IOS Chevrolet Infotainment 3 Plus 8-inch color HD AM/FM stereo, Bluetooth audio streaming for 2 active devices, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capable, voice recognition, in-vehicle apps, cloud connected personalization for select infotainment and vehicle settings. Yes
IOT Chevrolet Infotainment 3 Plus with Connected Navigation 8-inch color HD AM/FM stereo, Bluetooth audio streaming for 2 active devices, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capable, enhanced voice recognition, additional memory for in-vehicle apps, cloud connected personalization for select infotainment and vehicle settings No, already equipped with embedded nav

Again, this upgrade is only applicable to models 2019 and 2020 model-year Camaros with the 8-inch Chevrolet Infotainment 3 Plus system.

Price

At Chevrolet dealers, the Camaro nav upgrade kit retails for around $425, though the price varies by dealer. However, online retailers are offering the part for around $230, representing significant savings over dealers. Simply perform a web search using this GM part number: 84250952.

The GM Authority Take

If Apple CarPlay and Android Auto isn’t really your cup of team, then this Camaro navigation upgrade kit provides an easy and fairly inexpensive way to gain built-in navigation functionality. But those interested should really make sure that their Camaro is equipped with the 8-inch Chevrolet Infotainment 3 Plus System (RPO code IOS).

  1. Hmmm…I wonder if this would work in my 2019 Silverado with the IOS

    1. If you have the SD card slot then yes it will. It is not a plug and play. There is a software update that has to be done.

  2. More than likely yes. The new navigation is just a SD Card with the Maps on it. Makes even wonder if aftermarket version would work. On my 2019 Terrain its says the company that makes the mapping software on the SD card. Its possible though the system is lock down to only except the GM card but maybe not either.

          1. Correct this all bogus and part does not exist and similar options will not work on my 2019 ZL1 either. Two Texas dealers have told this is bad information from GM Authority.

  5. There’s no SD card slot in my Camaro. There’s a USB slot.

    1. Then you have a 2018 not 19.

    2. William, if you have a ’19, take a loooong look just underneath the 2 USB slots inside the console (you may need a mirror and a double jointed spine, that console is the very devil to get access to). There is an SD card slot lurking just underneath the pair of USB ports.

    3. Yes there is a SD slot in he 2019 Camaro its located on the middle cover in between the two front seat need to open it and its is located underneath the USB connector it took me a wild but I found it.

  6. Doesn’t the 2020 Chevrolet Camaro come or have the option of OnStar which can provide navigational information including turn-by-turn directions to get some where.

    Reply
    1. Turn by turn, yes, but not Map. All that OnStar provides is arrows on your dash when you approach an intersection or on/off ramp.

      1. I wish they would do the same for the 7″ IOR coded radio, even if they only added HD Radio capability. It would be so much nicer to drive our camaro.

    2. I used the turn by turn years ago.

They could not direct me to the GM Goodwrench Race shop in Welcome NC.

  7. simply look at the build of your car. There should be a sticker in your glove box. If you see IOR no, if you see IOS yes. There will be a list of RPO codes.

    1. Has anyone received any updates to this? I’m in similar boat – purchased a new 2020 Camaro with the 8″ radio/ Bose System but no navigation. I was going to buy the nav card but decided to hold off based on the comments. Anyone successful with this?

  9. Well from my standpoint you can forget about this upgrade. The information supplied by GM Authority is false. At my local Chev dealer today. Told my radio (IOS) could not be upgraded, after they talked to the factory. I have a card slot, nav card and my computer was flashed. Now I am out the amount I was charged for the nav car. Phooiy!!

  11. I also bought the NAVIGATION Upgrade kit for my 2019 1SS 1LE Camaro in hope to get basic factory navigation. My dealer tried 3 times to install the kit/software but no success as GM’s software is faulty. In true GM fashion GM-No-customer-service jerked me around over the phone for 6 long weeks but instead of fixing the problem they sneakily took it off the Camaro accessory list and told me to eff off.Which tells me the Camaro is dead as GM does not even spend the money anymore to fix the software on the Camaro.Definitely my last GM car as GM does not care about it’s customers or products they sell !

  15. Raymond I’m so upset about this that it will my last GM car,and I was a loyal Chevy customer for the last 25 years,if GM doesn’t make this Navigation Upgrade Kit work ! It must be a easy fix as just faulty software as you can order now Navigation from the factory on 1SS Camaros…But the Camaro must be dead as it was dead in 2002 if GM refuses to spend the money fix the software glitch so that dealers can download the software to make the kit work.GM took the Kit off the accessory list and acted on the customer hotline that they never offered it…Bad,very bad customer service on a faulty accessory Chevrolet sold for $425….my dealer tried unsuccessfully to install the kit. They tried everything and called even the GM tech hotline.

  17. I have a 2020 ZL1 without nav. I bought the OBD Genie with SD card from Infotainment.com. Nothing we did would make it work, to the credit of the people at OBD Genie and Infotainment never gave up troubleshooting. We finally figured out it was a bad SD card from GM. OBD & Infotainment replaced it without question. Now it works great and I didn’t have to replace my radio head unit.

    1. Jim,,, I am a little confused… The SD navigation Card that we are talking about is NOT the $600 OBD Genie.
go back and read the article written by Alex Luft.
GM says that the Nav Upgrade SD CARD is in development and NOT AVAILABLE !!!
I had ordered the Part Number listed in the article published by Alex Luft
, and GM had replaced that card with another/updated card. In a formal complaint to Mary Barra, The GM Rep assigned to my complaint, said that they don’t reference outside sources (Alex Luft, GM Authority) in a customer COMPLAINT. When I looked at the card on my computer it is NOTHING BUT a North American
      Map.Card !!!!
I emailed HERE (the source of the Navigation Maps for GM) to see what they knew and they said they are not doing maps for 2019-2020 Camaros !! And they knew nothing about a NAVIGATION card.

      1. Raymond, GM Authority is holding my reply probably because I put a link. You are right, the card is just a map. I did a lot of research before making a move because I read this article and everyone’s comments showing the frustration that the card doesn’t work. What makes it work is the OBD Genie that they send you. You plug it into the OBD port on your car to enable your head unit to work as a navigation and HD radio, they also supply you with a GM SD map card. Unfortunately, I also read that when you put the card into a computer and try to read them, the cards become unusable due to patent and copyright laws. When you use the map SD card for the first time it is assigned to your VIN so you can’t use it in different vehicles for the same reason.
I think GM should have taken back and given you a refund for the card when they weren’t even giving their dealers the tools/knowledge to program the car to accept it and allow the navigation to work.
If you still want navigation give OBD Genie or Infotainment a call, they will tell you all about it. Or it’s on the OBD Genie website, Infotainment doesn’t list it yet, you have to call them. I’m sure they will do a better job of explaining it than I can in a post.
I didn’t want to change out my head unit like I had to on my Colorado so this was the best thing I found.
I posted about this to hopefully give others and you another option.
