Cadillac CT6 sales decreased 23 percent to 1,862 units in the second quarter of 2019, a decrease that’s not all that surprising considering the ongoing shift in market dynamics that favor crossovers, SUVs and pickups over sedans. And now, in what could be a way to boost sales volume in the highly competitive E-segment, a new Cadillac CT6 discount reduces the price of select 2019 models by as much as $4,000.
Compared to the discount in August, which was just $2,500 and exclusive to eligible Cadillac owners and lessees, this incentive is offered to everyone while also being more generous. We should also point out that the headline-making Cadillac discount matches the $4,000 incentive in February. Additionally, Cadillac is offering special financing for the CT6 in September 2019, but the term is for just 36 months compared to the 72-month term offered in August 2019.
Incentives
The Cadillac discount offers for the CT6 sedan in September 2019 are as follows:
- Purchase Offer: $4,000 total cash allowance for everyone
- Finance Offer: 0 percent APR for 36 months when financing with GM Financial
- Loyalty Offer: $2,500 purchase allowance for current Cadillac owners or lessees with Ally, U.S. Bank or GM Financial
- Lease Offer: $1,000 toward the lease of a new model for current GM lessees with Ally, U.S. Bank or GM Financial
Interested parties should note that only current Cadillac owners and lessees can receive the $2,500 Cadillac CT6 discount, while anyone is welcome to take advantage of the $4,000 cashback offer, or the interest-free financing offer. Additionally, none of these incentives apply to the low-production CT6-V model.
For reference, here are the applicable 2019 CT6 trim levels and their corresponding starting MSRPs:
- Luxury – $51,490
- Premium Luxury – $59,090
- Sport – $67,590
- Platinum – $87,790
The $4,000 Cadillac discount lowers the starting price of the 2019 CT6 to a more modest $47,490, while the starting price of the Platinum model falls to $83,790.

About Cadillac CT6
The Cadillac CT6 is a full-size prestige luxury sedan. It slots above the mid-size Cadillac CTS and compact Cadillac ATS as the largest Cadillac sedan. The vehicle rides on the high-tech and lightweight GM Omega platform that is currently not shared with any other vehicles, though a full-size Cadillac crossover on the architecture has been rumored.
The current model was introduced for the 2016 model year and represents the first model year of the first-generation CT6. The 2017 model year saw a few minor changes, including the addition of two new exterior colors and darker finish taillamps. The 2018 CT6 introduced such features as Super Cruise, Rear Camera Mirror Washer for the Rear Camera Mirror, as well as an updated CUE infotainment system (to version 2.6).
For the 2019 model year, the CT6 receives a refresh, otherwise known as a facelift or mid-cycle enhancement (MCE, that includes revised exterior styling similar to that of the Escala concept, a new high-performance CT6 V-Sport model that was renamed to CT6-V, the new Cadillac 4.2L Twin-Turbo V-8 engine, a new trim level structure, and improvements to in-vehicle technology. In addition, the 2019 Cadillac CT6 gets the new GM 10-speed automatic transmission on all models, while the base model gets a new base engine in the form of the all-new 2.0L Turbo LSY engine, which replaces the last-generation 2.0L Turbo LTG.
The Cadillac CT6 is build at the following plants:
- GM Detroit-Hamtramck plant supplying North America and Middle East, and
- Cadillac China factory called SGM Jinqiao supplying China and Russia
In addition, the CT6 Plug-In model was built at the SGM Jinqiao plant for all markets, including the United States. The CT6 Plug-In was discontinued in the U.S. after the 2018 model year.
In November 2018, GM announced plans to discontinue the CT6 in North America as part of a restructuring plan that will look to shutter various plants, including the Detroit-Hamtramck location. But in January 2019, Cadillac president, Steve Carlisle, and GM president, Mark Reuss, announced that the CT6 will not be discontinued. However, production will be moved from the Detroit-Hamtramck facility to another plant. Another possibility is that the CT6 will be imported from China, where it will continue being offered. However, Carlisle stated that this is the least desirable option.

I think the uncertainty surrounding this model has greatly hampered demand. GM’s schizophrenic rumors and announcements saying it was being killed, then according to JdN, it wasn’t, then Barra announces the plant closures suggesting it was being killed after all. A Cadillac PR person confirmed it’s death shortly thereafter. Months later Carlisle and Ruess say it’s staying. Meanwhile the plant where it’s built is ‘unallocated’ after January, 2020 and there’s been no announcement of production starting somewhere else. The tariffs on Chinese cars make importing it a non-starter.
It’s all quite sad. I think CT6 with the Blackwing is the best Cadillac in at least 40 years and it plays to Cadillac’s strengths being a RWD V-8, full size luxury sedan in the classic Cadillac tradition. GM has knee-capped it with all the uncertainty plus I think it showed up too late. Still, I hope they keep it around, advertise it, rename it, spruce up the interior, and give it a chance. I’m not convinced the SUV thing is going to last forever.
You read my mind, bulls eye, totally agree with you, twin turbo 6 as base, Vette derived V8 mid range the Blackwing top dog.
Thing is GMs run by idiots….
I agree with you both !
This is a beautiful vehicle, GM finally got the engines right, the exterior looks great !
And the interior will do, and they could just improve upon it from here !
Cadillac has one vehicle currently in line with the competition here, now if they would just keep it around, keep it current with the competition, improve upon it as necessary, and please to top it off,
If they would just stand behind it if parts fail early, it will start to eat away at the foreign competition !
This gets a good job from me !
I agree with all three of you. I have seen a few CT6 on the road here in Miami/FortLauderdale. Next to the S-class, this car says prestige with the exterior revisement.
S, CT6, 7, A8, XJ, LS, Quattroporte.
It’s just one of those things as Cadillac’s CT6 just wasn’t what the public wanted and US sales for the CT6 has been flat since it’s introduction.. buyers were expecting something that resembled the Ciel concept car.
Omegatalon,
I don’t necessarily agree with you on all of that.
First off Cadillac has a horrible reputation !!
Horrible quality.
Horrible reliability.
Horrible customer support !!!
The American public still owns a lot of Cadillacs, older people drive less and are willing to hold on to their vehicles do to this horrible reputation Cadillac has had lately !!
Top that off with the horrible choices GM made early on with this vehicle !!
First off this beautiful Cadillac vehicle had a 2.0T 4 cylinder, and a horrible 8 speed junk transmission !!
Even the little old ladies who drive Cadillacs, don’t necessarily want to buy junk !!
Even the little old lady is smart enough to be able to tell the smooth Cadillac they have driven for the last 50 years was better than this 2.0T 8 speed junk !!
Clunk, shudder, blah shifting junk !!!
So lets start from here with the CT6, now that GM has a drivetrain worthy of a Cadillac, smooth, quick, and nimble, This is a great car !!!
Trouble is now, GM has to keep it around to earn back the very people GM pushed to Mercedes, Audi , and BMW !
And this will not happen over night !!
You know when a customer buys a vehicle over and over and over, they know, they don’t want an excuse as to why they now can only buy junk, they simply will go somewhere else, and have !!
You might want the Ciel, I want the Escala, but I would be willing to bet, neither one of us want one with a 2.0T and a junk GM 8 speed transmission, with a CUE screen that delaminates, and headlights that fog up and you can’t see at night, or a 1998 to 2000 NorthStar with the head bolt failures !
This vehicle is a Cadillac worthy of the Cadillac name, is it perfect, not to me, but its a great vehicle.
GM just needs to stick it out, long term, customers are going to wait this out, and see what the reliability and customer reaction is for this vehicle.
Internally GM ego might think the past few years of Cadillacs have been great vehicles, but almost ” every body else ” does ” not ” think so, and it is ” well known “, and I am one of them !!!
In my opinion.
lifelongGMowner,
“This vehicle is a Cadillac worthy of the Cadillac name,”
So true. There aren’t many products that’ve worn that famous crest in recent years that were worthy of the name but I think in the CT6 Blackwing, we finally have something that is.
Reputations aren’t made, lost, or remade overnight. It takes time and exposure. I fully believe the CT6 Blackwing is finally the kind of product that can rebuild Cadillac’s reputation if GM will just keep investing in it, keep building it, and start promoting it. It can’t do it quickly and I doubt GM is willing to invest the time but the CT6 is a great looking vehicle when weaving its way through traffic. Now that it has a proper engine, It just needs to be given a chance.
We just took delivery of a 2020 CT6 Premium Luxury in Shadow Metallic with Saddle interior. We traded our 2017 CT6 Luxury. All in all, over the past 4 days of ownership, I have to say it is a superior car over the 2017. Cadillac needs to listen to their owners and remain steadfast in the luxury sedan market. Not everyone wants an SUV/Crossover or a truck. Why do I want to spend another $30K plus to get into an Escalade and then pull a gas station behind it? I don’t haul stuff, don’t have kids or grandkids to haul and I want something that I don’t have to have a ladder to get into and be COMFORTABLE when driving.
Listen to the consumers who still want the sedan, yes ours tagged out in the high $70k range, but that’s OK. Keep mucking around Cadillac/GM and my next one will be from another brand with a large sedan. We have another Cadillac and a Corvette and have had GM’s (Oldsmobile, GMC SUV’s, Chevrolet and Cadillacs) through out our lives. Loyal, yes…stupid to jump into the SUV/Crossover frenzy…no!
