Acura Wins At Laguna Seca As Cadillac IMSA Championship Hopes Fizzle: Video

Acura Team Penske drivers Dane Cameron and Juan Pablo Montoya extended their lead in the IMSA WeatherTech driver’s championship Sunday with a dominant victory at Laguna Seca.
Their rivals in the DPi driver’s championship, Action Express Racing-Cadillac drivers Felipe Nasr and Pipo Derani, finished third Sunday. A podium would typically be a strong result, but with Cameron and Montoya taking a win, the Brazilian duo’s shot at the championship is now virtually nonexistent.
Cadillac also stands little hope of taking the DPi manufacturer’s title over Acura, with the second Team Penske Acura entry of Helio Castroneves and Ricky Taylor finishing second Sunday. Unless Penske were to somehow incur a double DNF in the Petit Le Mans finale, the Japanese manufacturer will take the championship.
The GTLM fight rages on, however, with Porsche finished seventh and eighth in class and Corvette Racing taking a strong 3-4 result. The No. 912 Porsche team of Earl Bamber and Laurens Vanthoor leads the championship with 304 points while their teammates, Patrik Pilet and Nick Tandy are second with 292. The No. 3 Corvette Racing duo of Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen are third, headed to Petit Le Mans with 289 points.
GTLM at Laguna Seca was won by the No. 66 Ford GT of Joey Hand and Dirk Mueller, which finished ahead of the No. 24 BMW of Jesse Krohn and John Edwards.
The 2019 IMSA season will conclude with the 22nd running of the Motul Petit Le Mans on October 12. You can view highlights from Monterey in the video embedded below.
