Rebel Rock Racing is looking to give the Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R its second IMSA win of the year as the Michelin Pilot Series heads to Road America this weekend.
The team gave Chevy a GT4 class win at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park last month and followed it up with a fifth-place result at Lime Rock Park two weekends ago. It’s hoping to carry the momentum as the series heads to the 14-turn, 4-mile road course in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, where it tested just before packing its truck to head to Lime Rock.
“We tested for two days at Road America before we went to Lime Rock,” said driver Robin Liddell. “That race was run in very hot conditions all weekend, and the guys were all worn out. But they’ve done a great job, and I’m really happy about that. There is a new bar set for us, since we won at CTMP, and we had a good opportunity to win again at Lime Rock. Unfortunately, we made a few mistakes, and you can’t make mistakes and win at this level. But we will learn from that and continue to grow.”
“I’m happy that we had the opportunity to test the Camaro at Road America, and hopefully that will put us in a good place to open the weekend,” added Liddell’s teammate in the No. 71 Camaro GT4.R, Frank DePew. “We’ve had three strong races in a row and our goal is to use what we learned in testing to be able to continue that momentum. Road America is a really cool track and I’m looking forward to getting back in the car!”
The Camaro GT4.R is the spiritual successor to the Camaro Z/28.R, which raced in the IMSA Continental Sportscar Challenge before the series was revised and rebranded as the Michelin Pilot Challenge. Built to international GT4 specifications, it races against other GT4 entries such as the McLaren 570S GT4, Ford Mustang GT4, Porsche Cayman GT4 and Audi R8 GT4.
Rebel Rock Racing had a tough opening half of the year, running into issues early on in the first three races of the season. Seven races into the ten-race season, they sit ninth in the team standings, while Liddell is tenth in the driver’s championship.
The Road America 120 will kick off at 4 p.m. ET on Saturday, August 3rd.

Way to go Camaro, GYSOT!
That’s a BEAST of a car, certainly a worthy successor to the Z28.R it replaces.
