General Motors and EV Connect have partnered to deliver real-time charging data to Chevrolet Bolt EV owners.
EV Connect runs a cloud-based software platform for managing networks of EV charging stations. By connecting EV charge stalls across America to a common, connected cloud, the company is able to provide customers with real-time updates on the availability of nearby vehicle chargers. It can also relay if the charge stall is working and if it is compatible with the user’s vehicle or not.
EV Connect will be integrated new update for the MyChevrolet app. It should roll out in the Chevrolet Bolt EV in late 2019, with GM saying it expects to finalize the deal before the end of the year.
“To achieve our vision of a world with zero emissions and to improve the EV driver experience, we are working towards a frictionless customer solution for EVs and chargers,” said GM’s vice president of electric vehicle programs, Doug Parks. “By collaborating with EV Connect, we are continuing our efforts to remove obstacles for drivers looking to charge their EV on the go.”
EV Connect says it currently has 6,000 charge ports under contract in its so-called “EV Cloud,” making it the largest open platform of its kind in the US. The company believes having connected charge stalls is important to the eventual widespread adoption of EVs, as the real-time data can reduce range anxiety and make the ownership experience easier.
“For society to fully realize all the benefits of EVs, we have to reduce range and charging anxiety by giving drivers access to charging and information about chargers, no matter where they travel,” said EV Connect CEO Jordan Ramer. “It’s a pleasure to collaborate with General Motors on this initiative to make EV charging for GM customers seamless and simple.”
Google recently enabled a function that provides real-time charge stall status to electric vehicle owners through the Google Maps application. That function is made possible through Google’s partnerships with other connected charge stall companies such as Chargemaster, EVgo, SemaConnect and Chargepoint. Between the Google Maps real-time charge stall updates and the EV Connect partnership, Chevrolet Bolt EV owners should have an abundance of real-time charge stall information at their disposal in the future.

Remember, most who own EVs charge 99% at home or work meaning destination charging is often only used for long distance charging…When long distance traveling, navigation should be checked for road closures/traffic therefore it makes more sense to just use google maps which shows the chargers on apple carplay…
With thanks! I enjoy this!
