Chevrolet Silverado sales decreased 8 percent to 142,464 units in the second quarter of 2019, with Silverado light-duty model sales declining 5 percent to 109,930 units. The results are in line with expectations of the ongoing launch of the all-new 2019 Silverado 1500, which is nearing completion, meaning that retail availability of the redesigned full-size, half-ton pickup is now much improved as more body styles and powertrain variants are becoming available.
For the month of August 2019, a new Chevrolet rebate lowers the price of all 2019 Silverado 1500 Double Cab models by 20 percent, which in some cases equates to nearly $10,000 off. Meanwhile, a separate combination offer includes a cashback discount in addition to interest-free financing for select models.

About Chevrolet Silverado
The Chevrolet Silverado is a lineup of full-size pickup trucks sold primarily in North America, but also in the Middle East and in certain markets in South America. Slotting above the mid-size Chevrolet Colorado (known as the S10 in some markets), the Silverado is Chevrolet's largest pickup truck and currently consists of the 1500 light duty model, two Heavy Duty models - the 2500HD and 3500HD, as well as Conventional Class 4, Class 5 and Class 6 Medium Duty models - the Silverado 4500HD and Silverado 5500HD and Silverado 6500HD.
The 2018 Chevy Silverado represents the fifth model year of the third-generation Silverado. It is based on the GM K2 platform shared with other full-size pickup trucks and SUVs from GM. Though the line sold relatively well, it became less competitive in the marketplace with time when compared to its primary Ford F-Series rival, due to lacking cutting-edge features such as turbocharged engines, a rugged off-road variant such as the Ford F-150 Raptor, a diesel engine option in the light duty (1500) model, and also various modern features and equipment.

Luckily, an all-new Silverado arrived for the 2019 model year that addresses many of the issues of its predecessor model. Customers began taking delivery of the all-new truck in the second half of August 2018.
Chevrolet says that the all-new 2019 Silverado is the result of over 7,000 customer interviews - the most intensive research in its history. The new model uses higher grade alloy steel in the bed floor as well as various mixed materials that result in a reduction in weight and improved performance, with weight falling about 450 pounds. The truck also offers an expanded amount of models for a total of eight, including the new 2019 Silverado Trailboss.
Riding on GM's new T1 platform shared with other future GM full-size trucks and SUVs, the 2019 Silverado offers more technology, convenience features, and engine/transmission combinations. While details of five powertrain combos have already been revealed, GM has not yet shared details of the new inline-six 3.0L Duramax Diesel engine, only stating that it will be "best-performing" and that it will be mated to GM's new 10-speed transmission.
Notably, the outgoing, Chevy will continue manufacturing and selling the outgoing, K2 generation Silverado alongside the all-new model for a limited amount of time in limited configurations.
Having overhauled the Silverado 1500, Chevy will next overhaul the Silverado Heavy Duty. The brand released a teaser image of the upcoming all-new 2020 Silverado HD in April 2018 and announced the vehicle in November 2018. The truck will launch in the 2019 calendar year as a 2020 model.
The 2020 Silverado HD will be comprised of the Silverado 2500HD and Silverado 3500HD that ride on a more robust and capable version of the new T1 platform when compared to the 2019 Silverado 1500, while sharing many high-tech features and design elements with its light duty brother.
Completing the overhauled Silverado family is the 2019 Silverado Medium Duty series, comprised of the Silverado 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD.
The Chevrolet Silverado is built at the following GM plants:
- GM Flint Assembly in Flint, Michigan, USA
- GM Fort Wayne Assembly in Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA
- GM Oshawa Assembly  in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada
- GM Silao in Silao, Guanajuato, Mexico
- Navistar Springfield Assembly in Springfield, Ohio, USA (Silverado Medium Duty only)

Really, showing RCSB which we can’t get, and telling us sales are down?! Tough. Whose fault is that?
Still not going to get us out of third place
When you can’t fix ugly, GM can try to buy marketshare, it’s cheaper than actually improving the truck.
Honestly, I think being overpriced is the biggest problem with the new Silverado. Yeah, in the interior is cheap and plastic, but that would be ok on a cheap truck.
Lowering the price might actually fix things.
Also, where the hell is that Regular Cab Short Bed?
Buying market share? Look at the discount in the crew cab, it’s almost nothing. Ford and RAM discounts are much, much much larger.
How about putting a little thought and maybe research into your comments before just opening your mouth and spewing garbage.
Here we go with the slasher sale on these very mediocre trucks. It’s only been a few weeks since GM was proclaiming…..” We are just getting production ramped up on double cabs…….” I guess production and inventory “caught up”, hence the 20% discount.
A new Interior cannot come Fast enough for the 1500’s. Also, if I was GM i would put the 10 Speed in all of them. They need to do something Drastic as they are getting destroyed in the Market. What a Shame.
I try my hardest not to call for peoples jobs but whomever approved these interiors for a Modern Vehicle should be reprimanded. Simply not good enough.
The interior isn’t just bad, it is missing features that other Trucks had on their Last Gen. Like what was GM thinking. Unbelievable.
They need to fix the front end too though. The fish gill side air scoops need to go. Make the front fenders normal shorter length and make the bumper normal full length. It really is a combination of both exterior/interior. I worry this will kill HD sales too. And for the exact same reasons. Front end and interior. At least it doesn’t have the fish gills.
I’m baffled as to why Chevy can’t just make a truck with clean lines and classic good looks anymore. Up until 2003 they were historically the best looking trucks money could buy. Then came slant eyes, fender bulges, plastic bumper end caps, the storm trooper face and now the fish gill/trojan helmet. The 2014/15 was a nice break from bizarro world. Just a classic looking Chevy.
I have a 2015 Silverado and really like the front end of my truck much better than the 2019 Silverado.
@Momolos
Agreed but I would also include the 2500 & 3500 when talking about an interior upgrade. They could also generate a little more excitement by upping their power ratings on everything from the 5.3 to the L5P Duramax.
I agree with you an the HD interiors, and I would also like to see a better looking Chevrolet front.
But the power on the LP5 is good enough, go drive a 2020 – 10 speed, and get back.
The throttle response is fixed from the 2017 LP5, and it is quick, I mean quick.
I have not pulled anything yet, mine is not here yet so just test drove one, but if it pulls as much better as it drives it will be great.
@Truckz
To be clear, I am talking about the whole Silverado and Sierra lineup of Trucks. From Base Trim on up.
The Quality of the materials used in the High Country should basically be the Standard materials in Base Trim models excluding the WT’s
These interiors do not belong in a Modern All New Vehicle. Everything from Old looking Design, Materials, and Technology.
Ford is coming out with an All New F-150. Toyota (Before everyone laughs, remember what we all here thought of FCA vehicles specifically Interiors) Tundra. Two new EV Trucks, one on the Higher End of the Spectrum like Rivian and the other, Tesla which Elon said will start below 50K
GM needs to do this ASAP and do it correctly!!!
It is and has been my opinion that the Market today desires two Specific things. The absolute Best interior for the money spent, and the most up to date and out of this World Technology.
Not everyone purchases a Pickup anymore because they need it for Work. Lots of Weekend Warriors out there and some who just love driving Trucks and will drive the latest and the greatest. How GM is missing this is beyond me to be honest.
I,am getting ready to buy a FORD RCSB . BETTER HURRY IF YOUR BRING THEM BACK. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gm profit up for the quarter because of truck sales and fords down .. think gm has everything under control, must only be a handful of you that don’t like it
GM is doing nothing right in the truck line they came out with a mediocre truck that’s not really selling an interior that would have been amazing in the early 90s I am a Silverado man but after you build a truck for a hundred years you don’t shoot for 3rd place come on this is there best selling vehicle an its nothing to brag about an look at all the excitement about the Corvette Chevrolet could have done more don’t give them an excuse to only think about profits an not the costumer
Nobody answered my question on profits, up.
Is the sale of capital included in profit up.
You see profit to me is, it costs X to make X, and we sold X for this. The difference is profit.
But is GM showing profit off sales of capital as income ?
If your downsizing to show profit, in reality there is no profit, or less.
Eventually you will run out of capital to sell.
Or is GM just downsizing in the US as China is up to speed on GM manufacturing ?
Just a question.
I’m still disappointed we can’t get the regular cab short bed and we can’t get the Duramax in a regular cab. Those two things would increase sales quite a bit.
I don’t want a extended cab or crew cab..Just give me a single cab with the option’s I want. Let us pick our gear ratios like a 373 instead of being told I have to have a 342. GM could do so much better than they have been doing in the US market. The way that GM is cutting products in a few years they won’t have any to cut.
Tom,
I agree with you on GM should just let you pick options that the customers want.
But if you are worried about the HD gearing difference 3.73 to 3.42, I think GM spread the gearing out on the new 10 speed in the HD so final gearing is higher yet when needed it will just downshift one gear.
I drove one, but haven’t pulled yet, but can tell you, in my opinion, ( and I own a 2017 HD ), this 2020 is totally different, better, by far.
I hope by doing this, with lower engine RPM in high gear, the average mileage will go up, close to my 2007 LBZ.
I agree with the classic lines comment and ugly front ends. GM has just forgotten how to make a handsome truck. ALso, they have de-contented the trucks to the point that they are not as appealing as a truck from 5 years ago! Why take away the adjustable seat belts for instance? Why take away a fold down console without storage? And yes, enough of this packaging! Offer options a’la carte and another interior color than black or kind of black!!
After 100 years this is all we get??
I tried and tried – even delaying my lease for months, but finally gave up. I decided to try to look past the fact that the Silverado is ugly. I also wanted to try to look past the cheap interior, bad ride, under powered engine, and uncomfortable seats. After all, I’ve had 5 Silverados over the last 15 years. 2 of my friends got out of them to the new Ram. I hate to say that I’m now the 3rd. I couldn’t look past the fact that I have to pay $90/month to get less. I took delivery of my new Ram crew cab yesterday. It is by far the nicest truck I have ever driven. 2 more of my friends (Sierra and Tahoe) have said they are going to follow suit. I have ran into soooo many people that are saying the same. I’m sorry GM, but you quit caring about us to make a higher profit. Maybe at some point in the future I’ll return if you think of us first.
