Way back in April, we reported that Bingo Racing, the racing arm of Tokyo-based exotic car sales and restorations shop Bingosports, would field a single Corvette GT3-R chassis in the 2019 10 Hours of Suzuka under the Callaway Competition with Bingo Racing banner.
Now the team has unveiled their livery for the race, which will kick off this weekend. With a familiar Corvette Racing yellow exterior color, you would be forgiven for mistaking the Bingosports entry for the Corvette C7.R, but this is actually a lesser GT3-spec machine built by Leingarten, Germany-based outfit Callaway Competition.
This will be the second year Bingo Racing has teamed up with Callaway to compete in the 10 Hours of Suzuka. An all-Japanese driver lineup of Yuta Kamimura, Yuichi Mikasa and Shinji Takei shared the car in 2018, but this year’s roster will feature the Japanese duo of Shinji Takei and Ryo Ogawa, along with Germany GT3 ace Markus Pommer.
Callaway Competition developed the Corvette GT3-R in-house and has seen quite a bit of success with the car in the German ADAC GT Masters series in which it regularly compete. It has racked up nine wins with the car since 2016 and also won the ADAC team and driver championships in 2017. Markus Pommer is the usual driver of the car in the ADAC series (alongside Marvin Kirchofer) so he should be able to help his Japanese co-drivers get up to speed fairly quickly in Suzuka this weekend.
First shown back in 2015, the Corvette GT3-R is powered by a 6.2-liter V8 engine making somewhere in the ballpark of 600 hp, depending on the Balance of Performance restrictions in place. The engine sends power to the rear wheels through an X-Trac 6-speed sequential transmission with paddle shifters.
The 2019 10 Hours of Suzuka will go green on August 25th. For information on how to stream the race live, you can visit Intercontinental GT’s official website, as they typically offer a variety of streams in different languages.
