Cadillac CT5 To Make Chinese Debut At 2019 Chengdu Motor Show

General Motors is preparing to launch the 2020 Cadillac CT5 sedan in the world’s largest automotive market, with the luxury sedan expected to make its Chinese debut in at the forthcoming 2019 Chengdu Motor Show.

The 2020 Cadillac CT5 made its North American debut at the 2019 New York International Auto Show earlier this year, however the first time the four-door will be shown in the flesh in China will be at Chengdu – which is set to kick off on September 5th.

The Chinese-spec Cadillac ATS sedan was sold in regular wheelbase ATS and long wheelbase ATS-L variants, however the CT5 has a longer wheelbase than the ATS and thus replaces both of these models in the country.

The Chinese-spec CT5 and the North American-spec CT5 will therefore be identical, save for the powertrains. According to GM Authority’s sister site Cadillac Society, the Chinese-spec CT5 will likely feature the turbocharged 2.0-liter LSY four-cylinder engine only, which makes 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque in the US-spec CT5.

Our sister publication also reports the 2020 Cadillac CT5 will launch in the Chinese market during the fourth quarter of 2019 – virtually at the same time as the model’s launch in North America. Production of the Chinese-spec version of the luxury sedan will take place at the Cadillac Jinqiao plant just outside of Shanghai. If you need a reminder, the Lansing Grand River plant in Michigan builds the US-spec CT5.

The 2020 Cadillac CT5 will join other vehicles in Cadillac China’s growing model portfolio including the Cadillac CT6, XT6, XT5, XT4, Escalade and XTS.

  1. Bring the Cadillac CT5, or better still the Cadillac CT6 to Australia in RHD form and watch it sell like ‘hot cakes’.
