2020 Corvette Offers Three Types Of Removable Roof Panels

We’re still floored by the sheer number of exterior styling options Chevy will offer on the new 2020 Corvette C8. As evidenced by the online configurator, buyers will have a vast array of colors, stripes and accents to choose from when speccing the 2020 Corvette to their taste. But the new mid-engine Corvette Coupe will also offer no less than three individual removable roof panel options, offering up a body-colored, transparent, or carbon fiber aesthetic, as desired.

Roof Panel Cost RPO Code CF7
Body-color Standard
Transparent $995 CC3
Visible carbon fiber with body-color surround $2,495 C2Z

The previous-generation Corvette C7 was also offered with a transparent roof panel, which was priced at $2,100, so the 2020 Corvette’s transparent option is a bit more affordable in that regard. It’s also worth noting that the 2020 Corvette can be had with the Dual Roof Package, available with either body-colored panels (C2Q) or carbon fiber panels (C2M). The former costs $1,995, while the latter is $3,495.

These removable panels are perfect for those who enjoy a little blue-sky motoring every so often, providing quick access to unlimited headroom on the fly. After the panel is removed, it can be easily stored in a special spot in the rear cargo area just behind the engine. What’s more, with the roof gone, drivers can get an ear-full of the 2020 Corvette engine note, as provided by the naturally-aspirated 6.2L LT2 V8 engine. Go for the optional performance exhaust, and that V8 growl will be more ever-present.

It’s also worth noting that Chevrolet is also expected to offer a proper C8 convertible model by the end of the year. Prototypes of the upcoming Corvette convertible have been spied several times in the last few weeks, each wearing some black-and-white camouflage and black netting around the roof section. Unlike the soft-tops of previous Vette convertible models, the 2020 Corvette Convertible will come with a retractable hardtop, resulting in an even more comfortable cabin.

So, which removable roof panel of the 2020 Corvette do you like the most? Vote in our poll just below.

  1. Something to note about those renders posted above the “transparent roof” does not have the body color side panels. GM said they were going to fix that on the Configurator.

  2. One would think most C8 Corvette buyers will opt for the standard body color panel as having the transparent or the carbon fiber looks a bit aftermarket as well as it’s free.

  3. I voted coupe roof “transparent” corvette c8, because it has contrast, it gives a feeling of great experience to the rider.

  4. Too bad it doesn’t offer a manual

  5. The fourth choice should be a stronger and lighter non-removable roof, for lower CG, increased structural rigidity, improved handling, improved safety, and perhaps a slightly lower price.

    1. They tried that with the C5. It was known as the FRC (fixed roof coupe). It sold as a cheaper option and was indeed more rigid and a better performer handling wise. But it sold so poorly they ended up turning it into something else instead, the C5 Z06. The Z06 ended up selling much better than a cheaper version of the Corvette. Unless its for a performance variant, people who buy lower model Corvettes apparently love the removable roof.

      1. The significantly improved structural rigidity in the C5 Z06 and non-Z06 fixed roof coupe notchback is exactly what I had in mind when I made the comment.

  6. Transparent roof for cloudy days and winter months since it very, very hot in sunny hot days!

  7. Would it be possible to have the convertible’s roof be transparent?

  8. I have had my C8 about two months and it has the body colored roof. I take it off a lot. It is a bit tricky to get your fingers under the edges in the middle of the front and rear edges. Removing it by yourself may be a sooner-or-later problem for most of us. I wonder what the weight of the transparent roof, compared to the body colored, is?

  9. A transparent roof is a BAD idea because it’s like a GREENHOUSE during the summer time, will bring a lot more heat inside the car. Nope!

    1. Transparent roofs are also UV coated so not much heat is transferred into the car.

  10. Transparent roof weighs?
    Body colored roof weighs?

    1. 14 lbs – Carbon Fiber Top

15.5 lbs – Body Color Painted Top

      17 lbs – Transparent Top

      1. Thank you for that info. Not sure a $2,495 roof panel worth the savings of 1.5 pounds at the top of the C8.

  11. I have a Glass Transparent roof available that has never been on the car. I sold the car and kept the roof SO if someone wants a brand new still in the wrapper I have one available here in the St Louis area.

  12. The pricing on the 2021 roof option is a bit WACK…

    * If you DON’T select any option, by default you get the body-color-matched roof. OK.
    * If you select the TRANSPARENT ROOF option, then you pay an extra $1000 roughly- but DON’T get a body-color-matched roof at all. WAIT, WHAT?
    * If you select the DUAL OPTION for both body-color plus transparent roof then you have to pay $2000 for both??? WTF. Isn’t that double-charging????

So opting for the Dual option- ie both type panels means they DOUBLE CHARGE you for the color roof plus the transparent roof plus $160 for a lousy carrying bag.

I wonder if you can get the car with the color matched roof and later just buy the transparent roof as a separate accessory for just the $1000 That would seem more FAIR…

    1. If you order the transparent roof when you buy the car it’s an upgrade. The cost of the standard roof is subtracted from the cost of the transparent roof. If you order both, it obviously get more so it costs more.

If I order an engine option or wheel option or leather seats, I don’t get two engines in the car, two sets of wheels or two sets of seats.

Also note accessory MSRP has a bigger markup over base new car pricing, it’s easier to talk accessories down.
